TORONTO, June 18, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) â On Friday June 15th, former TV sportscaster Damian Goddard gave an inspiring speech at the CLC Pro-Life Forum in Toronto, in which he observed that âthe word âNoâ can be an act of great love.â
Goddard was fired from Rogers Sportsnet in 2011 for âtweetingâ in defense of marriage.
In part 1 of his speech, Goddard applauded Pope Paul VIâs Humanae Vitae, the encyclical reaffirming the Churchâs position on marriage and parenthood and expressly forbidding contraception (HV 14-16).
Goddard said that Humanae Vitae ârocked the worldâ with its clarity on human sexual inclinations and identity. He compared the encyclicalâs proscriptions with a loving parent who will not give way to a childâs whims.
âIn that basic message of: âyou cannot have that cookie before dinnerââŚwe come to realize that the word ânoâ can be a word, an act, of great love,â Goddard said.
When a parent tells a child ânoâ, Goddard continued, the child knows âdeep within its soul⌠that that parent loves them⌠Humanae Vitaeâit was responsible, it was based on reason, it was scientific, it was love.â
