Most Americans walk around with an algorithm that tells them they are saved. Be it a leaflet they signed, a campfire prayer, a Billy Graham crusade on TV, or raising their hand in a service, they know they're saved because a preacher gave them an assurance of salvation. Now they might be divorced for the third or fourth time, haven't been to a live service in 15 years, and are living with someone else but they'll assure you their sins are covered. They know, that they know, that they know, that they're saved.
