In a Mainline or broadly evangelical setting, Mr Y would be soundly saved. Only in this marginalized forum could he be excoriated with "heretic," "apostate," "pagan" or some other seriouly uncharitible and unprofitible label. If your pastor is into headbutting human beings, then keep it amongst your own sect. The only persons Jesus harshly rebuked were the unfaithful religious leaders of His day (whose hearts He could discern directly). For eveyone else He extended grace and mercy. Peace.
