Rand has it wrong especially suggesting that Obama's "views on marriage couldn't get any gayer." Obama would be simply lost trying to put the ancient text -- if he's reading it -- into the modern context. It's not a KJV, NASB vs. The Message debate:
They are trying to sort through historic heterosexual marriage, a modern divorce plague, a new adultery avalanche, a current fornication pandemic and straining their heads back to see how in the world repentance & grace could ever cover this immense (and growing) mountain of heterosexual Christian sin. And if Jesus' grace is truly this expansive, surely there's a way for His amazing grace to even cover the homosexual's sins.
He's conflating sin and grace:
If Christian divorce and remarriage don't place a repentant Christian in a perpetual state of adultery, then Obama might argue, once repentant homosexuals are legally married, they would no longer be in a perpetual state of fornication (nor stigmatized), but could also receive Christ's grace and forgiveness. Then, he could tell Malia and Sasha that the homosexual parents at their little evangelical school are also loving, forgiven Christians just like the Obamas.
What if it turns out that Obama is just a garden-variety Christian trying to make sense of this mess?
