Has any one read of Asahel Nettleton...
Worth a google search if you are interested in real evidenced revival-30,000 converts in one area

To keep almost on topic:

An Antinomian complained to him (Nettleton) that ministers dwelt so much in their preaching on the demands of the law. "Believers," said he, "are not under the law, but under grace." "Is it not the duty of believers," said Dr. Nettleton, "to repent?" "Certainly," he replied. "Of what is it their duty to repent?" said Dr. Nettleton. The man saw at once the precipice before him. If he said, 'Of sin,' he perceived that the next question would be: what is sin but a transgression of the law? And if believers are not under obligations to obey the law, what can there be for them to repent of?

]]Cigars smoking today
As much as I love Spurgeon and his smoking to the Glory of God, he did so in an era when medical science said Cigar smoking was good for you. I suspect today he wouldn't approve of his name used to promote a brand of Cigars!

In God's particular providence I visited my Father yesterday, his first words were that a neighbour who moved into the cottages was taken to hospital with 'Emphysema'...his age? 60.

See my earlier post

The man told my Father that he was transferred to another Hospital and that night two other heavy smokers were put on oxygen machines...both dead the following morning.

Do Christian smokers really want a bed in their local hospital and come face-to-face with their own oxygen mask as Smoking Kills, but it won't get me-some comfort?

The UK Government have a health warning on tobacco to remain ethical...but will not ban it because of the great tax revenues. Smoking Can Seriously Damage Your Health

When the Government are forced to say that and lose substantial revenue as folk quit, then you know you know you need to know what those in the know know

Christian Smoker...give it some thought

Thought comment below from a blog was interesting, maybe Gluttony isn't a sin today, or at least it is a respectable sin:

"I find it quite hypocritical when an obese minister rings the rafters with his message against drinking, when he is a living example of one being unable to control his appetite. Take a look around the sanctuary on Sunday at how many overweight people are in our churches, yet we dare not speak against that."

Smoking accelerates the hardening and narrowing process in your arteries and blood clots are two to four times more likely.

Smoking can cause an aneurysm.

For ex-smokers, it takes approximately 15 years before the risk of lung cancer drops to the same as that of a non-smoker. Ninety percent of lung cancer cases are due to smoking.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a collective term for a group of conditions that block airflow and make breathing more difficult, such as:

Emphysema - breathlessness caused by damage to the air sacs within the lungs
Chronic Bronchitis - coughing with a lot of mucus that continues for at least three months.

Smoking is the most common cause of COPD and is responsible for 80% of cases.

Charles

I was a smoker for years, then converted and later came under conviction (unfashionable word?) that it does damage your health like a slow suicide...relatives died of Emphysema-all smokers, not very pleasant to witness.

A harmful addiction is the hardest thing to admit and a hard thing to break and I speak from experience, give it some more research as it is usually around 60 you hit the major problems!
Well you can't say your Sovereign God didn't send a warning!
