Amy Carmichael and Elisabeth Elliot can risk life and limb, go it "alone" (no men with them) and share the Gospel with 100s of natives in their international missions callings but they can't share the Gospel from behind a lectern each week back home in America? Why can so many Christian ladies lead men, women and children to the Lord "overseas" in a foreign tongue but must keep their native tongue still if in the U.S. in a room someone labeled a "sanctuary"? There are 10,000s of conservative women with earned M.Divs. and Ph.Ds. from the finest seminaries, why may they teach in every other arena (Sunday School, books, CDs, DVDs, TV, radio, online, blogs, SermonAudio, etc), but can never be called to be a teacher/minister? If a pastor's wife has an M.Div., can she not preach when he's sick or out of town? If you have two pastoral candidates, a male and female M.Div. side-by-side, and she has better grades, and far better communication skills at every level, is in total agreement with your creed or statement of faith and haw lower salary requirements, is your church going to discriminate against her and hire him? Or perhaps you're only open to male candidates. Either way, unless you avoid even the appearance of discrimination, a lawsuit is likely headed your church's wa |
