ladybug wrote: This is not correct, from Troy, "As I teach my son, faith is grown not given." Yes, our faith is tested and it does increase as a result of the trials we endure, but faith is a gift given by God, as Eph. 2:8-9 states, 'for by grace are ye saved, through faith, and THAT {referring back to grace, faith and salvation} not of yourselves, it is a gift of God not of works, lest any man boast'. This teaching takes you into the original Greek grammatical construction of the text - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3dodm97SY4 Can the elect of God ever over-emphasize grace? It is God's grace that causes us to be in awe of what He has done, and to be ever so grateful for it. Ladybug I am correct, faith is grown, not given. And you read into Eph2:9 because Eph 2:8 is clear of the process, God's Grace, then a human response of FAITH. Consider Hebrews 11 and many other passages that speak to the response of faith. Jesus said if we had faith the size of a mustard seed we could move mountains, also indicating it is grown not given. As for over emphasizing of grace, sure you can over-emphasize grace. They were doing that in Corinth and Paul wrote to them to say that indeed God' grace is greater then our sin but should they go on sinning? God forbid |

NeedHim wrote: Praise the Lord for the saving gift of marvelous grace, as I grow in my own understanding of how bad & how far I fall short of the standard of absolute perfection of no King but Christ alone. I stand in amazement, for if it weren't all of His saving grace alone heaven would have none. For how marvelous His grace is that would pardon & cleanse me, for none are worthy to be pardoned ever, for saving grace leads to humility for, I am doing better than I am deserving of amen. Spurgeon: If the people do not like the doctrine of grace, give them all the more of it. While it is good to have a proper perspective of ourselves in the flesh and in Christ, it is also important to understand that saving Grace is only applied by Faith. Also your comment that grace cleans you is not accurate. The blood of Christ cleans us. His Righteousness is imputed to us. As I teach my son, faith is grown not given. God'grace is given and not grown. Original topic of immorality in our country can only be dealt with by turning hearts and minds to Jesus Christ alone. Let's not confuse them by over emphasizing grace. While God's Grace is important, it is one element since we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Plus nothing. |
