If the Conservative Party had put same sex marriage in their election manifesto and won, they would have had indeed a mandate from the People to change the definition of marriage, BUT they would not have had a mandate from God.
I do not agree with same-sex marriage; the Bible shows us that marriage should be between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:6).
The only right we have according to the Bible is the right to become children of God (John 1:12, NKJV, NIV; translated as "power to become ..." in the KJV).
You say: "People are sinful and fickle. I am not interested in what they feel." We live in a lost world; but God so loved the world that he sent His Son Jesus to save those who believed in Him from the eternal consequences of their sins (John 3:16).
"Left to your line of thinking, when the people change their mind then marriage must be redefined. No!" My point is that, if the People mandate a government to legislate for same-sex marriage, then they have acted outside of the revealed will of God.
"Perhaps, with friends like you God-given marriage and liberty needs no enemies?" You lose me with your line of thought! How can I and the other 456,572 signatories to the petition at http://c4m.org.uk/ be enemies of marriage?
Such a monumental social change is being pushed through when it wasn't even a Conservative manifesto pledge at the last general Election. The Conservative Party and the Government Coalition have no mandate whatsoever from the People to redefine marriage.
Marriage is being redefined over the heads of people who feel it should be left as it currently is.
Over 456,000 people in the United Kingdom have now signed the online petition against redefining marriage but, apparently, the Government has said it is determined to press ahead with this change regardless, and I repeat “regardless”, of the outcome of its “consultation” on the subject.
David Cameron (he of “I munch Cornish Pasties” fame) is out of touch with ordinary people's support for traditional marriage, but then the Coalition Government is out of touch on so many things!
How much American and Commonwealth blood was spilt in two World Wars to keep the United Kingdom free? Was such a sacrifice made that we should arrive now at this state of affairs?
