Great Sermon! Pastor Boyett,
Thank you for this sermon! I will be teaching this passage on Sunday to an adult Sunday school class. I have already done considerable study but felt like I was still missing something. You have made the message very clear to me (in a way that the commentaries have not). Thanks for your efforts in the name of Christ! May the Lord continue to bless you!
In His service,
Convicted, thankful, and hoping! Thank you so much for this wonderful worship service (hymns and announcements pointed to Him) and message. Was able to watch this on-line because of some related links and praise Him for guiding my soul to this humbling and loving message. Thank you, pastor, for being His mouthpiece of love and hope. Indeed, when things don't go our way, He has always a far better plan and purpose, and that, He desires beauty and joy for us in His time. I just so desire and hope that He will bind my fickle heart to Him---to just truly hope and trust in Him. His way is perfect and He just cannot deny himself for being so good and real sovereign. Thank you so much! It's as if you were reading my soul's journal these days. Thank you, Father, for speaking and revealing your truth through this message. Thank you for being HOPE and LOVE.
this is a running joke that has run too long, and wasn't funny to begin with....
like the idea about the ignore option if they won't ban them.....a lot of other forums operate like that.....it lets the ranters think that they are influencing people, when in reality the only people who see their rubbish is themselves!!
Nyangao wrote: Why should you be so smug about your ham eating? Don't you have any sympathy for our Muslim friends? As for Peter's vision, in Acts 10:28 Peter himself explains the meaning of the vision: "God has shown me that I should not call any MAN impure or unclean." The sheet came down three times, which symbolised the number of gentile men that were looking for him. God didn't somehow re-create pigs. They are just as unclean and harmful now as they were then. They are scavengers and therefore not fit for human consumption. We have only been given permission to eat animals with cloven hooves and that chew cud. Muslims often dismiss Christians as pig-eating drunkards, and sadly they are often right.
I believe you are confusing the meaning of Peter's vision with the application. The meaning is clear: all foods are clean. This is directly supported by Mark 7:19 where Mark says, "Thus He [Jesus] declared all foods clean." Peter's application in Acts is that, in the same way that he was improperly holding on to the Jewish laws of cleaness of foods, he had also been improperly holding on to the Jewish idea that Gentiles were forever unclean and excluded from God's grace.
I view it as 1 john 5:11-13. Sums it up. Jesus died once for our sins, period. If you can lose your salvation how do you get it back? If you are saved, it does not give you a loaded gun to do what ever you want. If so you better examine yourself if theres no chastisement from the our Lord.
