I found it interesting to read that in this study (of churches with 500 members or more), 49 percent of the budget went to pay salaries.

Whatever happened to the idea that..where goods cross borders, armies will not.
Anyone who drinks coffee will have a hard time getting some locally grown coffee in the US. And only people in Texas, California and Florida will ever eat locally grown orange juice.

If I were the Pope, I would start the dialogue by asking the Muslims--are you going to practice 'taqqiyya' in our discussions? This principle means they are allowed to lie, deceive, if they think it furthers their cause.
Then, I would ask, can you separate your religion from your politics? Here in the West, we can be Democrat Catholics, REpublican Catholics (see Phyllis Schalfly), Democrat Protestants, Republican Protestants, etc. In each of the Western countries, Christians of all kinds belong to all kinds of parties. They have a variety of beliefs about political issues.
Yet your religion has only 1 answer for all parts of life--whether it be which sandwich to eat (no ham and cheese), which shaving brush to use (no boar's bristles), or how many wives to have. You call it sharia but it is not just for religious issues but for all life. If you can separate yourself from that, then we may have some common ground.

If they would have endorsed the other candidate, they would have had to deal with subscription cancellations and ridicule from all their friends in the press at cocktail parties, etc.
But, the key issue is coverage. How many people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area even read this newspaper, or any newspaper at all. My local newspaper only has an officially published subscription total that represents 1 in 10 people in this area, and they include internet access which you could argue includes people who don't live in this area.

I think many Christians would agree that heaven has to be earned, by being good, giving ten percent to the local church, attending church every time the doors are open, getting into the Word daily, having a Quiet Time daily, going on missions trips, visiting widows and orphans, etc.

If plastics can be made from 'biologically sourced' materials, does that mean something made from a pig would be OK? I'm sure the Muslims in France would love that!

I've never heard of this man in the USA, have you? I wonder what his audience is in the UK, which it seems this article comes from. And, just to say he was wrong, doesn't automatically mean he has been converted. It may bring him closer, but he may have other objections. Like someone said about Gandhi, I like your Jesus but I don't like your Christians.

This reminds me of a church in Sao Paolo, Brazil that is planning to build a duplicate of Solomon's Temple in Sao Paolo.
I think building the Temple of Baal in NYC is very appropriate, since there already are many prophets there. Only thing missing is Elijah.

I hate to admit this, but I am reading this story and writing this comment on a screen!
Thus, I cannot be objective in anything I have to say about how addictive screens can be.
I have read that TV watching has gone down, but screen time has increased to make up for it. So people are sleeping less, with great harm to their health; some say it helps explain the obesity problem in the US.

Somehow, I am not surprised, though the article had a positive tone that is not reflected in the many negative comments posted here.
I think one of the Megachurch principles is to be welcoming, not preaching 'sulfur and brimstone' or that God hates them, so naturally they would continue to grow.
And another principle here is that people will see what they want to see, so the words 'growth' and 'church' are seen to be positive.

Others say that looking at the back of someone else's head for 40 min. or so once a week is going out of fashion.

Today's adults have access to many Bible study materials on their smartphones and home computers, so no man standing in front is going to 'put one over on them.'

I think people like the social contact, though, and Megachurches have sorted out their programs to help this to happen. THe New Testament may have rules about older women teaching the younger women, but today I think older women would rather be with their own age group; they can't relate to the younger women, as is true of the older men.
Some may say these NT tasks have been 'farmed out' to parachurch ministries that offer big women's conferences and marriage enrichment conferences.

What is interesting is that Ann Coulter's column did not mention her Catholic faith. It's as if it is something she should be ashamed of being. Anyone who works in the anti-abortion field is going to run into many Catholics, and even Ralph Ovadal of Pilgrims Covenant Church here has commented on this in his "Heart of the Matter" program.
It is unusual that she was a Conservative and a Catholic since most Catholics are Democrats.
