When persecution is in fashion, envy, enmity, and malice, are strangely diffused into the minds of men by contagion: and charity, tenderness are looked upon as singularities.
Such is the depravity and degeneracy of that unregenerate nature (homo homini lupus, - man is a wolf to man), crafty and politic as men, but cruel and barbarous as beasts, and wholly divested of the thing called humanity. Persecuting rage and enmity turn men into brutes, into devils. Paul at Ephesus fought with beasts in the shape of men, 1Co_15:32. Hovind fights now.And cowards lurk in shadows un- abel themselves post the news to revel in their own sin and shame. So men will continue their restless and impotent malice and defend their wickedness though Providence reproves and has often defeated their mischievous designs. Consciences pressed down time after time but they continue their wicked agenda. Seared with a hot iron till they fill up their full measure of iniquity. The Lord inquires : How long will you do it? Will you never be convinced of your error? Will your malice never have spent itself?” But they are unanimous in their consultations to cast an excellent man down from his excellency. Pride ..envy is at the bottom of their malice. Sad.. so very sad. |
