All of this is because that when we suffer patiently, we show God in us and we glorify him. Not only do we glorify God, but it gives us a clean conscience, according Rev. Sturm. “Submission, Christ’s avenue to a clean conscience.” God wants us to suffer, but not because it brings us pain, but because it allows us to emulate Christ. This shows God’s love for us, in that he wishes for us to emulate His Son, whom He loves most dearly. We should not see the bearing of physical or mental pain as a tremendous burden that we must carry, instead, we should see it is a tremendous honor, that God, in His love, allows us to act in the manner of the person he loves the most, His Son Jesus Christ. This does not mean we should go out looking for persecution, but we should not shy away when it comes.

“ My Thoughts on Sermon and Subject ”
Before, it was knowledge to me that we were expected to suffer for Christ, and that if Christ tarries long enough, we will most certainly have to. However, it was not known to me that we are actually called to suffer. This is found in I Peter 2:21 which says, “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:” This here lets us know that as Christians, which literally means “little Christ,” we are called to emulate Him, right down to his suffering. In addition to that, the sermon shows us that Paul calls the servants that they should suffer under their masters. Even as a slave who has been unjustly removed from his homeland and country, we are to bear the punishment from our masters in a Christ honoring manner. According to the sermon, “the object is to tell these people no matter situation you’re in even it is in an imperfect things such as the slave trade, you will show forth his praises and you will display good works to those who are without so they can glorify God in the day when he visits you.”
