“ Great Sermon! ”
Shai Linne may be my favorite "Reformed Rapper." His songs like "Expository Preaching" are powerful and convicting. That would explain why he is ignored by main stream Christian radio.

“ RE: Cezar from Midwest ”
Please take the time to show me in particular how what I preached was incorrect from the Word of God. Please refer me to Bible verses. Certainly our authority is found in the Word of God not a particular preacher's interpretation of a passage.

“ RE: Joe Lee and Straw Men ”
Joe Lee, It would have been wonderful if you had been so kind as to articulate one of the straw men I set up so that I don't do that again. My intent was not set up straw men but instead show that God's Sovereignty in the salvation of the elect is a concept beyond any human's full comprehension.

Inauguration Prayer Controversy
Trevor Hammack

“ You are Right ”
I could not agree more with Trevor when he stated that Christians do exactly what the President did with regard to selecting a different pastor to pray for his inauguration every Sunday. Every preacher in the ministry knows what it is to go from being a church member’s hero to zero in one sermon or with one decision. It seems to me that men like Dr. Russell Moore are reacting from a perspective and confidence that they can do for America what their predecessors did with the SBC. While the collective effort of some focused preachers did impact a very liberal convention in an exceptionally positive way, redefining who America is will be significantly more challenging than taking back the convention. Moreover, it isn’t baptistic. Roger Williams Baptists have always stood for separation of church and state and soul liberty. America elected a liberal secular humanist who placates to particular groups at particular times as ALL politicians do. The inauguration prayer is not a real prayer. It is but a moment of time in a series of moments orchestrated and choreographed like a Broadway show. Whomever is selected will know that he or she is quite lukewarm with little fear of offending anyone but the Who matters the most.

“ Re: 'Us, rather then them' ”
The statement "we give more money to enemies over seas than we do in food stamps" is not true. The US budget is public information. I did a follow up podcast in response to this comment titled "Foreign Aid and Food Stamps." Check it out learn what the actually numbers are. You will be surprised. Moreover, we might ask: Who are our enemies? Certainly not the small children starving to death in Africa.

“ Re: SamJ. from Goda ”
Sam J. your point is well taken. I am not sure what the solutions are to the complex problems outside of the preaching of the gospel and the Second coming of Christ. I know that American cannot be expected to ignore the actions of brutal Islamic fundamentalists bent on the destruction of democracies. Please understand I have expressed all that I said in that podcast in previous commentaries prior to Matthew Sitton's death and I wholeheartedly agree that Christ died for Afghans (Heb 2:9).

“ RE: JJC from NY ”
JJC, Please send me an article that explains the other side. My point in the most recent podcast is that the position of "union boss" (these elected representatives) are not God-ordained positions of authority which must be obeyed. Instead, the "master" is the school administrator. Christians should not strike. If a Christian does not like their wages or working conditions they should resign or trust in God to provide more wages. Can you imagine me telling my church I will not preach again until you pay me more or lighten my work load or provide new carpet for my office or stop expecting so much from me? I am well aware of incompetent teachers in NY which are on the payroll and the union protects them from being dismissed. The truth is the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is a contributor to at least 1.4 trillion of the debt according to some estimates and the military does waste money. Presently millions perhaps billions of dollars are unaccounted for from both regions. As a taxpayer that makes me angry and those responsible for the mismanagement should be held responsible. Just like you should be angry that millions of dollars are wasted in NY school districts and incompetent teachers are protected from being dismissed because of union rules. Please do more research into the way uni

“ RE: Curtis from Seatle ”
"In order for people to have a relationship with God we must" place repentant faith in the good news (the gospel)that God sent his only begotten Son to die for us in an individual atoning sense and that He rose again. God is God and a single word like "gentleman" is not sufficient to describe God. I hardly think of a gentleman killing the firstborn of everything in Egypt not covered by the blood (see the first Passover). Or I hardly think of a gentleman giving the order to Israel to wipe out everything that has a pulse in the occupation of Promised Land, yet both are ordered by God. God is God and no single attribute trumps his other attributes. This is why "Love Wins" is a misnomer. The Apostle Paul is an example of a person who fought sin and desired to be in God's presence. All born again believers will battle with sin all the days of their life (see Rom 7:15-25). In heaven the absence of Satan, sin, death and the flesh will remove any need to "force" believers to live holy lives. God's finished work of sanctification will culminate with perfect holiness in all who are redeemed and these redeemed saints will enjoy God forever without compulsion they will live holy lives in the grace of God. I thank God that regeneration includes creating a will that will respond to the truth.

“ Correction ”
I made a mistake in this sermon when I said the word "gospel" is NOT found in Hebrews. I missed Hebrews 4:2. In many translations it is rendered the good news but the KJV renders it "gospel." This is the only reference to the word gospel in the book of Hebrews.

“ Does God still communicate? ”
I wholeheartedly agree that Christians are entirely too flippant in the manner in which God is thrown out as the ultimate trump card for matters that are either not directly or only indirectly dealt with in the Word of God. The Bible is the primary means that God communicates with people. Yet, it seems very difficult for me to conceive of God not communicating with his children except through the Bible when we know the Spirit of God leads men. Romans 8.24: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” How does God lead us if God does not communicate with us through our thoughts, impressions, or events and His Bible? How does God convict men of sin if he does not communicate? (John 16.8). How does God chastise his children if he does not communicate? Or in what way does God draw men to himself if He does not communicate (John 6.44). We cannot forget that there are still Unreached People Groups on the planet that do not have the Bible in their language yet. Are these people beyond the reach of the Spirit of God because God has limited Himself to communicate only through the Bible for the past 1900 years? How can a man quench the Holy Spirit if the Spirit does not communicate to believers? (1 Thess 5:19) What is the point of testing the spirits if the S

“ Schools Do Discriminate ”
Priscilla, As I was thinking of the manner in which you took this Christian school to task for their discrimination in admissions because of the homosexuality of two male parents I thought of sermonaudio.com. Yes, sermonaudio.com. It discriminates in a similar manner. It has a list of Articles of Faith a broadcaster must subscribe to in order to broadcast on sermonaudio.com. SA discriminates against anyone who doesn’t agree with them on these stated areas of belief. All doctrines are not presented, like all sins are not considered in the admission policy. Some doctrines are elevated above others in importance and the variance on the big ones—like the deity of Christ—are deal breakers. I would be removed if I started questioning the deity of Christ on SA and I am sure you would agree with that. In the same manner all Christian schools have the right to decide the deal breakers for their school and we should respect that.

“ A Different Perspective ”
The Word of God calls for believers to come out from among them and be separate and it also calls for believers to integrate into the culture and be salt and light. This creates quite the tension. Finding the perfect balance is difficult. This school chose on the side of caution. Why not respect this conviction? Based on the logic employed in this commentary Christian churches would also be wrong to discriminate in who they accept in their membership. Where do we draw the line of being in the world but not of the world?

Gay Christians

“ Strengthening Matt's Argument ”
The issue with the religious LGBT community is that they do not see their sexual behavior as sin. Matt’s argument could have been strengthened by quoting Leviticus 18:22 “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” Although this verse is part of the Mosaic Law; it establishes God's moral standard for sexual behavior. Paul’s message in Romans 1 v 26-27 proves that he did not believe the New Covenant created a new liberty in this area that the Jews did not have. Paul also shows this applies to all people even those w/o the Law. Religiously gay people who profess faith in Christ must be convicted by God the Spirit and the Word of God that their sexual behavior is unlawful. Until they see their type of sexual behavior as unlawful they will not repent.

“ How long should we remain silent ”
I am for traditional marriage (which is interpreted as being anti-gay marriage). Matt seems to be saying we should not talk about it but where do we draw the line about what we will not talk about for fear of offending. How do I talk about the gospel without talking about sin? What about genocide is that another non-gospel issue we should be silent on? Rob Bell and the emergent church called for a five year silence on the gay issue but the gay community is not also agreeing on a period of silence. All this doesn't mean we shouldn't be gracious or gospel centered but Jews could have been saved if the German church did not remain silent to the sin of genocide. So there is a need to preach on sin Paul did.

I agree that Christ's words provide us great comfort in the assurance of our salvation. Yet Peter who heard Jesus say this later wrote 2 Peter 1:10 "Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall."

“ Great Sermon! ”
Praise God with all the division there is still unity that the Godhead is Trinitarian, Jesus is the Christ, the Holy Spirit indwells, the Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to humanity, God is the creator, salvation is by grace, faith in Christ is essential, baptism is needed, the Lord’s Supper should be practiced, Christ is coming again, Christ commissioned the apostles, Jesus saves sinners, prayer works, forgiveness of sin is needed…but of course within all this common ground is much diversity. I can’t help but wonder about the balance between unity and diversity when I consider all the diversity in God’s creation. Moreover, I wonder to what degree division has been used by God for growth (Genesis 50:20). I think about when Paul and Barnabas parted ways; so then each grabbed another and four went out instead of two. Finally, it seems to me that even with this large organization called the RCC with a Pope they still have all kinds of division and each member of the RCC interprets Scripture as he or she seems fit and councils overturn each other’s decisions. I have heard on more than one occasion my German Catholic grandparents take the Pope to task for his wrong interpretation of the Bible. Fallen man will be plagued with struggles in unity until Christ comes. Maranatha!

“ Pray for strength for Major Andrew Craibe ”
Major Andrew Craibe of the Salvation Army should be commended for the manner in which he continued to remain steadfast to his biblical convictions in spite of the combative interview from so-called “journalists” whose agenda was to discredit him rather than just presenting the facts. All Christians need to be better equipped to defend the never changing truth of the Word of God. The LGBT agenda seeks to discredit and marginalize any who would hold to a continuing application of the truths of God’s Word in post-modernity. The expectation is that the Bible be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century with accommodations for all kinds of immorality. The Salvation Army actually serves as a model for others in the reality that they continue to provide services to all people without regard to sexual immorality, yet hold to as much as possible a regenerate church membership in its worship. Notice how repulsed the queer “journalists” were at the suggestion that they had a choice in their practice of homosexuality. They were incensed at such a suggestion. Perhaps they are right. Perhaps they no longer have a choice. Perhaps God has given them over to reprobate minds because they did not retain God in their knowledge. I hope not. Our prayer must be that they repent. Trevor, I th

“ Evidence of a Struggling Mind ”
When we hear that a homosexual prays to God to take away his/her sin and s/he then speaks of God not answering that prayer and s/he receiving peace, we need to be reminded of 2 Corinthians 11:13-15. If Satan can appear as an angel of Light and false apostles can appear as apostles of Christ, we should not be surprised that those of a reprobate mind (Rom 1:28) can be so comfortable in their sin that they believe it is no longer a sin. When someone can’t see that murder is still wrong but a sin in the same list is no longer sin—something is wrong with that lack of objectivity. Great work Priscilla in trying communicate and insist upon an absolute truth for all people.

What A Wonderful Prayer

“ If Everyone ”
If everyone preached the way you described in your short commentary there would be no need for someone to lead another in a traditional sinner's prayer. Instead, men and women would cry to the Lord for mercy like the publican did of Luke 18 who of his own initiative articulated his greatest need of mercy and grace from the Sovereign God of the Universe. I agree with you that the watered down preaching of the Word has led to the perceived need to prompt a canned response to felt needs sermons and feel good preaching. If a man lacks faith to believe let him ask God for the faith to believe the gospel. And when God answers that pray let him rest in the promise of God that God grants eternal life to those who believe the gospel.
