King VII and all previous Roman Catholic Sovereigns, "sought to damn the whole of her empire..." for 100s of years and millions of subjects. If being Roman Catholic somehow really, truly damns, then millions of their followers would have been cast into Hell just as his granddaughter, Mary I, attempted to later do with all of her subjects.
However, from her view, perhaps she was concerned that Protestantism's liberty-on-steroids would eventually yield a sexed-out, maxed-out, burnt-out all-but-faithless shell-of-an-everyone-does-what's-right-in-his-own-eyes-post-Christian-country. The rest is history.
In the end and despite today's stifling pagan culture, Jesus and his followers win!
