God has preserved His Word just like he promised... Psalm 12:6-7 (KJV) 6[The words of the ] Lord[ ] are[ pure words: ] as[ silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.] 7[Thou shalt keep them, O ] Lord[, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.]
Thats the difference modern textual criticism sits in judgement over the Word instead of the Eternal Word sitting in judgement over them. The modern view is that God couldn't keep man from corrupting His Bible and now we need man to help fix it...also the Roman church that has done everything it can to keep the word from the people and burned Bibles and the men who translated, suddenly gave us the "real" bible text, codex vaticanus and Alexandrinus. The will of man does not impinge on the sovereignty of God, for it is God who gave man his will, and says I set before you life and death therefore choose life.
That said I believe there are some that God chose some things for them, Esau, pharo, even Paul. But the scripture says many are called ( not all but not select either) few (select, limited number) are chosen.
Great sermon on this sight called Calvinism and Armenianism, it is masterfully done and both sides so thoroughly presented that either side would be satisfied and educated.
How soon we forget the hundreds of millions killed by the church of Rome. Our Protestantism is failing to protest. The church of Rome and the church of Jesus have nothing in common. There can be no peace with Rome and the pope.
Do not be fooled the reimaging campaign by Rome over theist 50 years may have many thinking that Rome is just a sweet harmless older brother to the church just slightly confused doctrinally. But this anti-Christ system will turn and attack the church as soon as it is convenient. Much like Islam it is in their documents to make peace for the purpose of gaining advantage.
Great posts forjesuit and moreforjim, unfortunately Jesuit Jim is a closed book.
In regards to Erasmus he did not challenge the church directly like Luther but rather believed in transformation from within. However no single work has had more impact on the reformation as the Greek/Latin text of Erasmus. In regards to his being compared with wescott and/or Hort for scholarship and translation. It would be like comparing a college professor with a 5th grader. You just don't know the facts. Erasmus was considered the Einstein of his day. Perhaps it's because you got your info from Haper Collins who own the writes to the NIV. Oh and they also publish the satanic bible by Anton levy. You ought to see all the things Harper publishes for yourself...then again a good Jesuit like you knows and will simply redirect.
A catholic Bible are you serious or did you learn that in your Jesuit training. The catholic church HATES the Erasmus text as you well know, they even hired Guy Fox to blow up the King Parliment and the translators in an effort to stop it from coming to pass. It's in the council of Trent the venom and clear determination to undermine, discredit and ultimately replace the Erasmus text which produced Luther's bible, Tyndale's NT, the Geneva bible and yes the KJV. The heart and success of the reformation was due to this text and everywhere it has gone God has blessed with Reformation and Revival. Wescott and Hort agents for Rome replaced the Erasmus text in the RV and that corrupt, mutilated text became the fountainhead of all modern versions. So no Jim your Bible is the one that is Catholic.
The sad part of this is, the reporting by the media on this ignored and practically covered up the fact of his Muslim religion and his terroristic mindset. If this were a tea party person they would have nothing else to talk about, but they can't find this stuff among tea party so they invent it on police and courtroom shows. But the real threat of Islam, oh no we mustn't mention that... Religion of peace and tolerance? Where? Show me a single place in the world this is demonstrated. Quite the contrary everywhere you find war, genocide and even slavery you will find....you guessed it Islam.
I believe that it is more likely Thursday than Wednesday because if it was wednesday and thurs was High Sabbath they would have come on thur to anoint the body on Friday. But it was not until early Sunday morning before sunrise, in other words they could not wait to get there. Not to mention the timeline in fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy fits better. Either way it is not possible for a Friday crucifixion.
Matthew 12:39-40 (KJV) 39[But he answered and said unto them, ] An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
So was Jesus mistaken, a false prophet no we got Friday from the pagan influence of Constantine and Rome.
The reason we have been told He died on a Friday was a misunderstanding about Jewish sabbaths. When it talks of breaking the legs so they were not on the cross on the sabbath was talking about the High Sabbath of Passover. Jesus was killed on the day of preparation ( the day the lambs were killed) the following day was the High Sabbath of Pesach. Jesus died on Thursday. We can thank Rome for this tradition that has us looking like kindergarten ears not able to count to 3. Jesus did not make a mistake He was in the earth 3 days and 3 nights like He said.
