John UK wrote: One big problem with that Joe, as I see it. The filthy rich will buy as many wives as they wish and, because the Lord seems to have ordered it that the ratio of men to women is roughly 50/50, the poor (like me) will find no wife at all - not even ONE! And that doesn't bode well with the Lord's own statement, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." So the rich have plenty of helps, and the poor have none! I think polygamists ought to be locked up for life, for causing such misery, their "marriages" annulled, and the women sent over to the UK to make up for the shortage. An interesting point, brother! I shall include it in my Polygamy version 2.0 plan! |

Greetings in the Lord Christ Jesus! The other commentors must be using different Bibles than my KJV, NKJV, or NIV. My 1 Kings 11:1-3 reads "King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter...He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines". Not wise, but Legal. Like God said to King David in 2 SAM 12:7-9 "I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms...And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more". Compare that to the LAW: EXO 21:10-11, LEV 18:18, DEUT 21:15-17 *PLUS* Prophecy in ISA 11:1-3 "Seven women will take hold of one man...let US be called by YOUR name". At no time in the Bible was Polygamy (or concubinage) equated with Adultery! The Patriarchs engaged in it. Even though the Word of God often uses "singular tense" many times, God NEVER spoke against it (except foreign wives leading to sin), but He did say he HATES divorce Malachi 2:16. Jesus taught against divorce, but not polygamy since the Law will by NO means pass away, the LORD does not change! Since He is the One who gave the Law and guided Israel originally, that just makes sense. Maybe we should outlaw divorce and allow polygamy to become a more "Biblical Commonwealth" |
