As wicked as this is, I find this, and the gay "marriage" debacle to be the biggest distractions for Bible believing Christians..get some good tracts. Pray for God to bless his word( which never returns void), and give them out. Not bold? Pray for boldness and wisdom. God isn't glorified in us standing on corners and protesting, but He truly IS glorified when just one sinner repents. Thanks for your time!!

Great Sermon! In response to the former post, if you read the Declaration of Independence, taxation was among the minutest of the concerns of the colonials. The British were burning their towns, murdering them and raping their lands.
They rightly petitioned the King for redress of every single grievance they had and were ignored. Again, they were being murdered by the English and their lands pillaged as happened back in England. In those days, it was bow to the Church State or die.
The scripture says there is a time for war (Ecclesiastes 3:8). The American colonies had their own established representative legislatures which the King ignored and bypassed in attempt to establish absolute rule over them.
So at what point do unified men under God get to break off from tyranny and seek to establish righteous government? To say the American Colonists were unjustified in dissolving their allegiance to the British crown is like saying that Israel was not justified in their Exodus from Egypt under the tyranny of Pharaoh. God called them out from under an ungodly Tyrant in order that they may properly serve Him.
If there was ever a justified war in the history of the world, aside from the wars Israel fought in the OT, it was the American Revolution.

Great Sermon! Much is revealed to us in the New Testament that was not revealed in the Old. We have a more sure word of prophecy. The character of God has not changed but now our sin has been put away by Christ. God no longer requires the sacrifice of animals, circumcision or strict dietary measures. The gospel of Christ is now the central message God requires us to preach.
I depart with dispensationalists though when it comes to the place the moral law has in our life as Christians. And I also depart from them in their view of a literal millennium.
In short, we must seek guidance of the Lord by His Spirit to apply His Word to our lives. All of it is given to us to profit from it and instruct us in the way of righteousness.
Great Sermon! Isn't it important the way the phrase "so that" in v4 is used? Doesn't it require that the temple Paul speaks of is, indeed spiritual? The Man of Sin exalts himself above God "so that" he sets himself up in the temple of God. In other words, the exaltation of this man puts him in the temple. Doesn't that wording make the spiritual meaning far more likely than the physical?

Interesting thoughts. What about Romans 3:11? Obviously, it is not true that none seek God in an absolute sense - rather that no one, of themselves, seek God. Paul says, in verse 10, that both Jew and Gentile has been proved to be under sin and then continues to say that none (in that context) seek God. So doesn't that rather confirm Cornelius' seeking of God as being of God as well? I think you are right when you say that God is beyond understanding and His ways beyond ours (infinitely so). As such, doesn't that tend to confirm (or certainly not invalidate) the Calvinist view that only God can draw a man and there is nothing that man can do of himself to seek God (because he can't, naturally speaking)? It was said that Cornelius' prayers would have been heard and yet the Calvinist says that the prayers of the unregenerate are not heard. Or is that the elect (not sure...)? Either way, I guess I don't see how that can be so in any context otherwise no prayers would ever be heard because no one could go from being unsaved to saved. Rather, if offered in faith (which is the gift of God) - however small that faith and however it might appear to men not to be "Christian", if God gave that to the man and drew him, how does that invalidate Calvinism? Maybe I don't know enough about it....
Good Message...but what about the ref verse? Some challenging thoughts in this message! One thing, though, that I struggle with is the idea that there is a sliding scale (so to speak) of sins. That is, that we need to focus in on the more "major" sins. Doesn't John's message come down to idolatry (the last word in his first epistle)? The rich man that came to Jesus had kept all the commandments but couldn't let go of what he had. Likewise, aren't those "small" (so-called) sins just vestiges of the self-will that led to man's fall? Samuel told Saul that God looks at stubbornness the same way as He does idolatry. The proverb nearly equates the one lazy in business with Satan. Jesus says one's thoughts are looked at (by God) just like the thought was acted out to its fullest extent. So it's not just a matter of not excusing sin, but it's a matter of realizing all sin has hellish roots. If all unrighteousness is sin, then the believer needs to know the seriousness of sin for him. Pastor Harris says we don't know where the line is, how, then, can John say "If anyone sees his brother sin a sin that is not unto death, he shall ask, AND HE SHALL GIVE HIM LIFE FOR THEM THAT SIN NOT UNTO DEATH." So we have to be able to see the difference and then God gives life for a sin that isn't unto death. Why is giving life necessary?
