“ Adding for the hopes of edification... ”
I have something to mention about the water baptism of Jesus. There are some peculiarities in this area of Scripture I have considered also regarding the subject. To begin, consider what was said in Heb.7:11-19 speaking of a changing of the priesthood in vs.12. John the baptizer was of the line of Aaron, and thus according to the law, could qualify as a priest. With this in mind, remember the statement about unloosing Christ's shoe's latchet. Also there is a description in Ruth about the plucking off of the shoe as a testimony (Ruth4:7). Could this washing be cerimonially pertaining to the priesthood being changed? Did not the priest's partake in cerimonial washings (Heb.9:10; Ex.29:4, etc.)? Would this be considered of the like? Jesus Christ needed no repentance, but was alltogether unspotted. Another thing I have noticed in John 17:17-19, was that in vs.19 Jesus mentions in His prayer to the Father, that He/I...sactify Myself, that they also may be sactified by the truth... Being that He was Holy and without blemish, could this be a reference to Him taking upon Himself our sins, and thus like explained in Gal3:13 being made a curse for us: subsequently being made Holy by the resurrection from the dead?See also Rm4:25&7:4&10:17;Gal3:2 Thank you for your work in the Lord!

There is also something I learned about the verse: 2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. That word "sin" in the phrase "...made Him to be sin for us..." is in the original language, Greek, for the New Testament. I learned that the same word in the Old Testament Greek (LXX) is translated "sin offering" in the KJV, of the same verse, which uses the Masoretic Hebrew. This can be utilized to better understand Christ's role as a "sin offering", thus minimizing confusions that may come up with the wording "...He was made to be sin...". It has help me, so maybe others can be help with this also. An example of this is as follows: Exo 29:36 And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin offering for atonement: and thou shalt cleanse the altar, when thou hast made an atonement for it, and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it. "Real Christianity uses everyone's gifts," ...

"Everybody's a minister"

These are the same ideas that all of the gurus tell us grow church numbers - there's nothing new here - its the same philosophy that is expressed in the Warren's PDC. Get people involved and they will stay in your church.

But realize, Christ can raise workers and doers out of stones. Christians are not a army of droids using their gifts and working, but a loving and living community, loving Christ and loving one another - sharing one another's burdens amidst an evil and wicked generation.

Christianity is not inviting the world into the church, as Saddleback does, but coming out from among them and being separate - and bearing the reproach of Christ by the world. It involves persecution.

Its very easy for Warren to say this - it sounds good ... but as long as people think they are 'ok' because they give so much or do so much, and his messages do not deal with issues of the heart and sin, people will flock to this kind of religion - churches will be filled, and so will hell.

But then again that is really the demonic goal of mega churches - to create a population of people who say, "Lord Lord, have we not done," who in the end are destined for hell.

Very well stated! I suspect it also has to do with the sin of ingenuity of which you wrote about two weeks ago. This is sad news in particular because of the influence Dr. Piper has had upon Fundamentalists beginning to come to the Reformed faith. Also the Reformed community which was just beginning to warm up to Piper, will likely shut down. But as God has said, He will not share His glory with another, and perhaps people have been attributing too much glory to a man for that which the Holy Spirit alone deserves credit.

Calvary Chapel Chuck Smith, and Applegate Fellowship Jon Courson are "quiet" charismatics as far as I know. I have a tape of Jon Courson predicting that Jesus would return in September or October of 1999. I am just now learning the dangers of the false man centered "Hole in your heart" Gospel taught by many. Calvary Chapel is where I learned it, and remained unsaved under this teaching for many years.

Just do a youtube video search on Todd Bently, there is plenty of evidence and warnings out there about this guy.

Huge blessing again, this series in Amos just keeps getting better. We learned so much about covenant, (which is which) and more in this message. Really worth the time to listen to this!

“ Great Sermon! ”
This has a Paul Washer flavor to it, but is so complete in pointing out Jesus and my need for Him, and the Law and my need for Christ, and my sin and my need for repentance. If a person is searching for hard hitting truth of God's word, this is an outstanding message!

Excellent sermon! Poular churches seem to have forgotten the message of repentance. *Audio is good quality but lacking in adequate volume.
