John UK wrote: Yes there is, and he appears to be saying that married folks do not care for the things of the Lord because of their care for the things of the world It is somewhat disconcerting to read one of the problems highlighted by Jesus in the parable of the sower is quote, "And the CARES OF THIS WORLD, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful." Mark 4.19In 1Cor 32,33 Paul describes the worries and woes of married/family life as "cares of the world" - which interfere with our dedication and service of the Lord. But marriage is the gift and calling of grace and not a direct conflict as it were, with our service to God. But marriage takes of our time to "serve" our spouse. It is true that the married person dedicates part of their life to the spouse and this is a demanding role which requires of them to be available as husband/wife father/mother and the duties therein. As married Christians we may object to the insinuation that we serve God 'less' simply because we are married, but it does remain true that a spouse demands our attentions, obligations and duties. Such obligations and duties are not within the life of the single person. |
