Were we better off by the War of Independence, probably.
Did we obey the timeless command to respect Great Britain's leadership by warring against them? Perhaps the U.S. (as a separate nation) is "better off," but that's not the point of the Scriptures. Did our Founding Fathers obey this command?
And if they were permitted to form "a more perfect union," why couldn't the south do likewise -- with continuing legalized slavery?
And if the issue between the UK and the Colonies was not taxation and representation, but happened to be slavery, would we have been wrong to form "a more perfect union," the USA -- with continuing legalized slavery?
Why is there no consistency to the biblical teaching?
