As for Wescott and Hort you have 2 unsaved men who are going to the men behind the Bible you read? In the autobiographies of these men which are The Life and Letters of Brooke Foss Westeott, by his son, Arthur, and The Life and Letters of Fenton John Anthony Hort, written by his son. There is no recording of either ever believing on the shed blood of Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
Among their beliefs: No literal hell Belief in purgatory insufficiency of Christ's atonement water baptism for salvation heaven as a state not a place doubt of Christ's miracles 2nd coming of Christ spititual not literal prayers for the dead ok just to name a few! Hardly the kind of men I would trust to translate a Bible.
As a final test check out the fruit of the KJV and the newer versions since 1900- no contest
Do your best?- how weak, every english version since 1881 has taken out the word study.The context of the verse tells you what to study,(the word of truth) why to study (to be approved unto God)and how to study (rightly dividing).
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth. Which one is truth - Study or do your best, be diligent etc? I will stick to study.
