Neal, there's a great deal of difference between seceding and forming your own country when the present government fails to fails to follow The Constitution and rioting with the intent to tear down the established order. The war was about ill-gotten gains, but not on the South's account. Let me tweak your imagination as to why the War Between the States was fought: "so that Northern Industrialists could obtain the South's abundant natural resources for pennies on the dollar." There's your ill-gotten gain for you! That's exactly what the North got during Reconstruction. If you dig into the history of it you'll realize that slavery was only a "scapegoat" reason for starting that illegal war that cost almost 700,000 lives. In the words of President Jefferson Davis: "All we wanted was to be let alone."
Jim, he who is not against you is for you. John Y is right. The Assemblies of God adhere to the same basics of the faith that we all do. They are my brothers and sisters in Christ! And they are yours too, whether or not you choose to recognize them as such.
Jim Lincoln wrote: Ah, but as I have often pointed out, and too bad a person who I suppose is an atheist has to do say this, and she really shouldn't have to, excerpt from article. What is interesting is that the Gideons give out either the AV or NKJV, which should make 90% of the Christian parents unhappy, "AV only" types will be in an uproar and any Bible other then the AV, and the "Just about anything but the AV" types will be somewhat irritated they have something else to take the paper recyclers if their kids get an AV. Fifth grade is still too young for a person to comprehend the Bible, something that the Gideons should realize.
Bibles should be passed out to adults only.
Couldn't disagree more, Jim. If you worked oversees in a Muslim country, your kid might actually come home with the Muslim Scripture. So why shouldn't we!?
Included in mankind's mandate to rule over God's creation in Genesis is the mandate to tend it and to keep it.
(Gen 1:28) And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
(Gen 2:15) And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
The comment that comes to mind after having read the article is this one from the first letter of John the Apostle.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.(1Jn 2:19)
I don't know much about Greek Orthodox doctrine, but I do know that to do the hatchet job on his parents like Franky did is definitely an indication of bad fruit. Jesus did say that by their fruits shall ye know them.
God used Dr. and Mrs. Schaeffer, and, yes, Franky too (he produced the movies), to ground me in the faith through their "How Should We then Live" series.
To argue, as Franky does, that he renounces pro-life teaching because the divisions that it has caused is rediculous. Jesus' teachings caused division. Should He have kept his mouth shut. PRAISE GOD HE DIDN'T.
