The flesh belongs to the soul, but the soul does not belong to the flesh. For the lesser belongs to the greater, not the greater to the lesser. But the law of sin - which is sensual pleasure - has become interlaced with the flesh through the fall. Because of this the flesh has been condemned to suffer death, for the purpose of death is to destroy the law of the flesh. Hence the man who knows that because of sin death was introduced, in order to destroy sin, always rejoices in his soul when he sees that, as a result of his many sufferings, the law of sin is withdrawing from his flesh, thus preparing him to receive in the spirit the blessed life that is held in store. For unless in this present life the law of sin, evidenced in the will’s attachment to the flesh, is drained from the flesh as though from some vessel, no one can receive that blessed life.

He who still satisfies the impassioned appetites of the flesh dwells in the land of the Chaldeans as a maker and worshipper of idols. But when he has begun to discern what the situation is and has gained some insight into the mode of life which nature demands, he leaves the land of the Chaldeans and comes to Haran in Mesopotamia (cf. Gen. 11:31). By Haran I mean that intermediate state between virtue and vice - a state not yet purified from the delusion of the senses. But if he goes beyond that moderate understanding of goodness which he has attained through the senses, he will hasten towards the blessed land, that is, to the state free from all sin and ignorance which God, who does not lie, manifests to those who love Him, promising to give it to them as a reward for their virtue.

Passion-free knowledge of divine things does not persuade the intellect to scorn material things completely; it is like the passion-free thought of a sensible thing. It is therefore possible to find many men who have much knowledge and yet wallow in the passions of the flesh like pigs in the mire. Through their diligence they temporarily cleanse themselves and attain knowledge, but then they grow negligent. In this they resemble Saul: for Saul was granted the kingdom, but conducted himself unworthily and was driven out with terrible wrath (cf. 1 Sam. 10-15).

The generated feed on generate food, while the regenerated feed on regenerate food..

That which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of is spirit..
Know thy food you eat..

The doctrine that sin is passed from parents to children serves to exhort and stir us up to do our uttermost to work grace in our children, and so cure the deadly wound that we have given them, and to preserve them from pershing by that poison and infection that we have conveyed upon them!!!

Glad to hear that you "Mortify" daily, Barry. I sometimes wonder if some Christians do this in obedience to Scripture. Some Great sermons on SA for mortification including John Owen the Puritan.
Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
I have been reading puritan books for years. THEY have ministered my soul with a truth of unfolding the scripture.

The decrees of God relate to all future things without exception: whatever is done in time, was foreordained before time began. God’s purpose was concerned with everything, whether great or small, whether good or evil, although with reference to the latter we must be careful to state that while God is the Orderer and Controller of sin, He is not the Author of it in the same way that He is the Author of good. Sin could not proceed from a holy God by positive and direct creation, but only by decretive permission and negative action. God’s decree is as comprehensive as His government, extending to all creatures and all events. It was concerned about our life and death; about our state in time, and our state in eternity. As God works all things after the counsel of His own will, we learn from His works what His counsel is (was), as we judge of an architect’s plan by inspecting the building which was erected under his directions.

Ah????? Something is radically amiss here.
The sobering reality that Yahweh in His sovereignity allows evil to exist for a season is far from His good, acceptable and perfect will and the reality of the kingdom of God that Scripture teaches we are to seek and persue.
So what is the duty and responsibility that the apathy modern day Calvinism produces in so many and excuses them from so that thy might pretend a form of godliness and deny its power?
-Fervent Intercessory Prayer?
-The Great Commission?
-Our own individual, and only by the grace of God, personal holiness and sanctification?
-The Spiritual Warfare, Faith and Labor out of LOVE for Jesus Christ (grace is NOT opposed to labor, just merit) to see the Power and Glory and The Truth and Righteousness of God prevail against the vile sin that fallen humanity loves so much, to see them (after we ourselves) and only by the grace of God, do some serious repenting and calling upon the name of the Lord that He might save them from their sins and a genuine turning to the Lord Jesus Christ to know Him, love Him and serve Him all their days?
The decrees of God relate to all future things without exception: whatever is done in time, was foreordained before time
