Romans 1:27 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
FAKS:"The problem with Calvinists is they think God is a respecter of persons and that nothing is expected of them and that God can be finessed, that there are no rules, that God changes on a whim, and that God doesn't know or care what we think or do." A. what you talkin bout? B. it's those of the arminian stripe that seems prone to try to sneak people into the kingdom of heaven.
Probably about as hard as they resisted complaints about salvation army workers seeking donations during Christmas? It sort of speaks of a trend to me.
I think this will hurt JCP's already sagging sales... I'll make an effort to avoid them now. And I don't think they're cool enough for the typical LGBT? and metro hipster types.
Traditional? I have a book titled "What Baptist Believe" published in 1934 by the Sunday School Board of the SBC that essentially is an exposition of the New Hampshire Confession...considered moderately Calvinistic. If one goes back to James Boyce's systematic theology, the biblical Calvinism from the days when Princeton was biblically orthodox shines forth giving glory to God alone.
Not trying to split hairs here, but Liberty has independent fundamental baptist roots but is now more moderately conservative evangelical with a strong SBC influence.
"Sounds like there are opposing views in the SBC. The older (more Biblical) teaching and then the newer (Calvin's) opinion."
The traditional view was Calvinistic emphasizing the sovereignty of God-hence the SBC Founders Ministries...committed to historic Baptist Principles. http://founders.org/
I believe the below statement supplements what Neil has already been cogently expressing about empiracism in vs. biblical knowledge in several posts:
There is no science to which final appeal can be made; there are only scientists and their various theories. No scientific or observational proof can be given for the uniformity of nature, and much less can experience demonstrate that “the scientific method is the sole gateway to the whole region of knowledge.” On the contrary, a plausible analysis showed that science was incapable of arriving at any truth whatever.

Having been brought up in the Roman camp before my eyes were opened, I would say the RCC is more like the samaritan type of sybcretistic religion with some biblical roots. ( a system that impedes saving grace to its adherents no less."
Jim said "As Luther pointed out, there are only two religions -- Christianity and everything else, Catholicism falls under the category of everything else."
