no thats right on this occasion with this individual that was what was requred not a 'because' answer its not about being clever, if there is anything clever happening its being attentive to the question its not about us deciding wether someone deserves to be taken seriously they should all be at all times

yes we know about the rejection of jesus by 'the shepherds' (zachariah) i think that to make comparison of their wilful rejection with the question of the spring of Gods desire to forgive the elect is stretching things way to far. my friends have never even read a bible whereas the pharisees were well educated in scripture theres no comparison.
the analogy may operate to the extent that some questions posed by the lost are of the 'where did cain get his wife ?' type but even then youve got to give an answer weve got one like that at the moment on here its our job to give the answers no way am i going to decide that someone is being stupid.

Stupid question: "Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see

i dunno john thats not a stupid question IMHO i cant see how you street preach by thinking that a question like that is stupid - street preaching with you must be a hazardous occcupation.

''Note, they did not ask stupid questions ''

no such thing John, you dont want to be thinking that and then find out later they were one of the elect

Yes self proclaimed christians, as everyone here has explained arah that does not make them a christian

Have it your way arah, but i think you can trust us when it comes to what a christian is .

to please you i checked the link and found what i expected, that the 'higher christianity' was a derivative of the 'higher criticism' of germany which started in the late 19C which denies the crucial doctrines of the gospel and jesus divinity as do every other religeon in the world - funny that isnt it ? they all are united in denying the divinity of Jesus - you would think that they had an objective in common .

FYI if you dont believe in the divinity of Jesus you arent a christian. period

if i stole something or told a lie or used Gods name as a curse word what would that make me ?

if i never did those things again in my life what would i do about the times that i had ?

how you gonna pay god for all his air you breathed and water you drank all the time you cursed him and mocked him every day by saying he never made the world that you live on and it came about by accident ?

God is angry, freshly, every day with those that wont believe but he stays his hand - now is the day of mercy he has ordained the time and means of your end if you wont repent Psalm 7 ask him

john the question why would God desire to forgive me is a wonderful question.

I cant go into details about an individual but only an individual who was becoming aware of his sins would ask such a question.

withouyt referring to a particular individual but let us suppose the hypothetical sinner bears the obvious marks of many brutal physical encounters, that he is such a man as when rage takes a hold you cannot hurt him they dont care about the pain you can break their arm and they will still come for you, but is intelligent enough to instantly discern when someone is being inconsistent or false i have friends like that and they have helped me in the past when i needed that kind of help. I dont know how streetwise and sinnerwise you are but its very easy to get involved in every kind of degeneracy and i contemplate gratefuly that i am now spared the shame of being exposed for my sins which is just about everything including selling narcotics but Excluding sodmy and class A substances at least.
If you know men who by Gods grace know that they have done very bad things and hurt other people very badly as well as themselves and they ask you 'why does God desire to forgive me'
this question has to be taken seriuosly. its like your q 'can i be forgiven ?

Lost: Why would God want to forgive my sins?
Preacher Mike: He loves you.
L: Why does God love ME? A rotten sinner like ME?
P: God loves everybody.
L: Everybody?
P: Yes, everybody.
L: Well, okay then, I guess everybody's all "good to go" then. Thanks!
P: One must believe first!
L: Wait a minute, either He loves me or he doesn't. Love isn't conditional.
P: There IS a condition: you must believe in Jesus etc.
L: Look. You said God wanted to forgive my sins because He loved me. I'm forgiven then. I believe that. I'm all set. See ya later, preacher!
P: B-b-but ...

you understand exactly the situation DJC well put, i was in a risk of saying something like 'because'

which just wouldnt have washed at all 'in the context'

most unsaved people i speak to 'mike' dont respond to 'spiritualising' the gospel, (or sarcasm - Yes, "He loves you" is way too simple, understandably not satisfactory) they see through that phoney talk in flash, they like it straight

i understand the challenge is to make it accesible for minds that have been darkened to 'the things of God' by the enemy and years of rebellion to often christians when talking to the lost use words and phrases which dont mean anything to the unbeliever although of course the word itself always speaks

Ah ha ha ! sorry Arah but the Nazis christains ? puleese ! admiteddly they did have Gott mit uns on their army belts but which God ? the one of their own making for sure its called idolotary
lots of people cite god as their motivation including your mudrolling aquaintances (i assume they werent big buddys - if so dont eat at their house in future !) I do hope that here on SA we can point you in the right direction - no mudrollers here ! sorry its just so bizarre ill try not to mention it again. as you may have deduced most on here hold to the view that God shows mercy to those he will, the others he destroys. everyone here has come from darkness and ignorance. God teaches that he even chooses the delusions of the lost he has got that much time for everyone lost and saved. Jesus wasnt using a cutesy folk tale when he said God knows when a sparrow falls and every hair on your head. God knows everything - literally ! amazing isnt it ? the Big issue is this, Jesus said veryone is going to die i think we can all agree on that, and then and then.....judgement by the standards of a Holy God, ever told someone something that wasnt entirely true even by accident ? thats enoug for a guilty count an unlimited sentence, no time of, discharge, diversions of any kind, no rehabilitatio

thank DJC it just came to me as i was seeking the words although i believe its more usual to refer to the church as the bride and Jesus as the bridegroom but yes thats how i will explain it from now on we have been given to the Son upon completion of the work of the cross, this is how i understand the pivotal moment of crisis as it were in Jesus going thru with the dreadful ordeal knowing what he would go thruough but steeling himself for us so that we could then be His but i understand that we would only be his once the work was done. ive thought a lot avbout this in the last six months as i recently got married.
this eschatology also has seriuos implications for the condition of temporal marriage since if christians will accept divorce and remarriage then are those same people willing to accept that Jesus could divorce us ? I think not. the wedding vows are taught for life what God has joined let no man seperate and as God has joined us to the Son in marriage then we cannot be seperated, this is the teaching of Jesus - no allowance for divorce and remarriage even for adultery except in the case of fornication (relations before marriage) farnication and adultery being seperate offences - many dont accept this but i think that is because they dont consider the eschatology

good post djc, the same man also asked me another very profound question one which happily i was able to answer but i was neraly lost for words he asked me 'why would God want to forgive my sins ?' now in the context of the conversation and the individual it was a question about the source of Gods desire to forgive him. i say i was a little caught out because we spend much time in the church discussing and learning about the mechanism of salvation but not so much on this and if i had said 'because God loves you this wouldnt have been satisfactory. it was profound and humbling. i answered it this way, God loves the Son, and the Son gave Himself for those whom God gave to Him. God loves the son and commends Him for this work and if we will honor the son God will love us also as belongiing to the Son and promises that he will cast our sin into the deepest sea, will remove it as far as the east is from the west, will not even remeber it becasue of His love for the Son

that is a good answer john but still suggests that God has failed to ensure that the gospel was preached to all men

i never met anyone who when preaching instucted someone to find out if they were of the elect i dont see how anyone could without believing anyway but you dont have to talk about the gospel long before election comes up if you cant answer the question ' what about the people who have never heard the gospel' this way then how ? someone know a way ?

election is evangelistic, it is there for the comfort of the called to describe it as dry bones and an impediment is either misundertanding or a red herring
