I remember the day when we, Protestants, could hurl accusations at the RCC and Her popes and no one questioned it as slander. Now, with the Internet, we must cite our specific accusation and include original sources as evidence. Boitmann, can you of any of these?

Further, to suggest that Catholics have no sin and that RCC leaders have never engaged in evil and have no culpability, this is false:

"The road to hell is paved with the skulls of erring priests, with bishops as their signposts."

-St. John Chrysostom (347-407), Doctor of the Church, generally considered the most prominent doctor of the Greek Church and the greatest preacher ever heard in a Christian pulpit.

G.K. Chesterton summed it up:

He said he knew the Catholic Church was for him because when he left his umbrella at the back of a Methodist Church it was still there, but when he left it at the back of a Catholic Church it was stolen.

He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone.

(2.) Just because RCs make up stories to promote the false religion of Roman Catholicism.

(1.) Popes sin and err. Perhaps one did when he kissed a copy of a Koran. However, this doesn't mean Catholics must follow his lead into sin or error. Are you suggesting otherwise?

(2.) Since you are an ex-Catholic, what story has the RCC "made up"?

Unless SBC leaders (or another large conservative denomination) own a popular orthodox English (and while they're at it, Spanish) Bible translation copyright, they will be forced to suffer with the vagaries of Big Media.

Murdoch's fiasco is just a foretaste of the things to come.

Since WELS' (and other Reformed denominations) foundation is built on the "Pope is the Antichrist," the day they overturn this position (as did the SBC and PCA) is the day they either begin on the road to atheism, oblivion or Rome.

I, personally, wouldn't consciously kiss the Koran since I reject it's tenants and teachings.

If a Christian kisses a copy of the Koran, does this act damn him?

“ Great Books! Great Message! ”
Guest stated that in reading Gregory the Great's "Pastoral Care" (A.D. 590) he found a new "calcification" of the Church because Gregory discusses the doctrine of purgatory which he didn't find in Augustine. However, Augustine of Hippo writes this of Christians in the "City of God," 21:13 (A.D. 426): "But of those who suffer temporary punishments after death, all are not doomed to those everlasting pains which are to follow that judgment; for to some, as we have already said, what [sin] is not remitted in this world is remitted in the next, that is, they are not punished with the eternal punishment of the world to come." Excellent topic.

Thank you for sharing.

John is one of my favorite Bible books. It's all good and great.

Jesus is awesome! He's King of kings and Lord of lords! Glory hallelujah!

Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ!

Amen.

]]841 "The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day.""

As in the Nicene Creed and the Bible, Muslims may, indeed, adore the one true God the Father. This is not evil. However, as Christians all know, who recite the Nicene Creed and read the Bible, there is also God the Son, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit -- two other persons of the Holy Trinity.

It's not incorrect that Muslims believe in one God and it's good that He's the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. However it's a seriously deficient faith. Likewise is that of the Jews.

From an earlier inquiry: When Pope John Paul II kissed the Koran, did he know this gift was an Arabic Koran or did he think it was an Arabic Bible? Or was it a cross-cultural customs faux pas that happens to the best of us globetrotters? Applying a sinister motive to him would be, not just unkind, but uncharitable.

"Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ."
-CCC 133

It's great that the SBC also holds the Bible in highest regard!

NPR (and all of Big Media) is no friend of the Christian faith. They attack the SBC and biblical inerrancy this week. Catholics next week. Orthodox the following.

If they can capitalize on our weaknesses, they will. If they can cause Christians of all stripes to be in a perpetual battle, they will. If they could eliminate the Church of Christ (if that were possible), they would because they have no love lost for Her.

"The Bible is the sole authority for faith and practice."

-Magisterial Reformers (16 Century)

For Protestants, in accordance with Sola Scriptura, what else would be required?

When the UK Parliament signed the WCF (including the anti-Christ provision) into law (Circa 1646) that was a whole different context involving a country long ago and far away.

However, if you personally and totally embrace Sola Scriptura, why bother with this extra-biblical dead letter?

Or do you keep the original WCF legislation around just so you can kick sand in a papist's face?

Have heard from conservative Reformed Presbyterian clergy who show up to these types of events wearing their business suites and essentially blend into the crowd while the liberal Methodist, Episcopal and Presbyterian ministers wear their collars and robes making it almost appear that the majority of Christian pastors support same-sex marriage.

Interesting how the Enemy even uses apparel to work his mischief.

Interesting that you judge me based upon your interpretations of the Bible.

Why do your interpretations make me damned and you saved?

Suppose another chap arrives and says that according to his interpretation of his Bible, he and I are saved but you are damned?

Who would decide which position is correct?

Or is it every man for himself? Surely you're saved but with enough Bible reading and dialogue you come to realize that almost everyone else is damned?

Ms. Bauchmann is outed by a reporter who mentions that her denomination (WELS) claims Pope Benedict XVI to be the anti-Christ. Then a few days later she quits her denomination of 10 years.

Is this a woman of strong Christian conviction and fortitude?

How will WELS respond? Soften it's position on the Pope so other members are electable?

Not the best.

"Although known as gospel people, evangelicals no longer share any consensus on the Gospel's meaning."

-Protestant Church Historian and author, Dr. Carl Trueman, "]]The Real Scandal of the Evangelical Mind."

How is Protestantism one Church (John 17:11-23) when it doesn't have any "consensus on the Gospel's meaning"?

As a radically saved Christian, former member of the SBC and PCA, and convert into the Roman Catholic Church, I can attest that Catholics know the Bible.

If you have a Reformation or John MacArthur Study Bible we have the CCC and our Bible. What's the difference? You have your commentary on various verses. You also have the Bible Answer Man.

Catholics have a vast commentary, the CCC, that spans the biblical doctrine gamut.

Of course there are some (self-excommunicated) Catholics (e.g., Pelosi) who is unlikely to bother reading the Holy Writ -- the precious Word of God.

If you don't have an established confession process as we have in the Church, what is your confession process?

How exactly do you confess each of your sins? Do you make a written list? Do you try to remember all of them from day-to-day, week-to-week? Do you admit them to another? Do you have a particular prayer time when you speak them, one-by-one, to Christ?

Does it matter if you don't have a confession process and you share with God whenever you remember one?

Not clinging to "old chains," he's just reading his Bible:

Jesus to His Disciples: "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

Dr. R.C. Sproul (a Calvinist theologian) writes about confession:

“Speaking as a Protestant, I think something very precious has been lost in the Protestant world in our ceasing the confessional practice. I have yet to meet a Christian who does not yearn to hear ‘your sins are forgiven.’ And I think that authority, as the Roman Catholic Church believes, was indeed given to the church. That’s why even in Protestant churches we have ministers stand up and giving the assurance of pardon. People need the assurance that the sins they have confessed have indeed been forgiven ...

"I’ve talked to psychiatrists who say that the biggest burden in terms of mental illness of people in the United States is the burden of unresolved guilt. A psychiatrist said to me, "Most people who come to see me need a priest more than they need a psychiatrist.”

Dr. R.C. Sproul Sr., Now That’s a Good Question, page 360 - 361.
