John Ulics wrote:
Deuteronomy 28:63 (AV)
And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought...
The key verbs "destroy" and "rejoice" in the Hebrew אבד (abad) and שוש (suws), respectively defined, perish, die, exterminate, kill, put to death...; joy, glad, rejoice, delight. In context, this passage speaks to His covenant, chosen people. Not saying that Piper is wrong, for his quote of Scripture is correct. But this passage ought to give us pause. I, however, would never compare the inherently finite, corrupt, mind of mankind to that of Almighty God... I fear Him too much to make such a statement, and Scripture refutes such a notion in multiple passages. But, then again, Mr. Piper is much more learned and experienced in Scripture than I.
I cannot agree with you closing statement although I agree with what preceded it. A man can have intellectual gifts but that is not what makes him right, what makes him true and faithful is the Spirit of Truth and men without His influence are right and wrong at the same time.

You cannot judge economically or otherwise, without perceiving where God has blessed with providence the most.
Opo, your words sound more true to your own ears than to mine. I have been in the east and in the west and the east was far more open to the gospel. Sadly what was offered to them was as lacking as it is now, in the west. Every nation of people will give an account to God, not only for the light of Creation, but with greater culpability their gospel advantage neglected.

It is apparent our different beliefs make a difference in our freedoms enjoyed, as for myself I had more freedom in the east because of the hospitality native to the culture. It wasn't always that way, but the more I was shown by grace the defections of the time and separated from them the narrower the path became. see Isaiah 30:19-21 this is God's Word on it.

Lets hope the ordinary people get some actual freedom out of current events wherever it comes from.
Opo, I was just curious what does freedom for the Libyan people, that you seem to be representing present itself as? Freedom to believe the true religion, the gospel of Jesus Christ, because when the Son sets you free, you are free in deed. Or are you only talking economics. I believe there are poor and rich in every economic model. Some might choose poverty over sin and some might choose sin over poverty, some might be rich by righteousness and some might be rich by covetousness and theft. Sin is an internal condition and the gospel conquers men and makes them free to be godly and righteous.

If you read the article jpw gave and then read my comment you would have known what I meant when I said, they knew what to hit and when to hit it. The when to hit elluded to the fact there were no children in the building, someone knew that it was a weekend and they were do back on Monday. The article stated that if you read it.

The youtube video was self explanatory. So I believe you are mistaken, in your assessment again?

The speculation on historical facts were not from one source but two and one was a university history professor. FYI

The article said: Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens in areas where events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations," the State Department said in a statement.

What areas do they mean? Is it left up to ones imagination? Who should be concerned? Every American? Any Jewish American or Christian American that could be mistaken by dress for a Jew?
Just wondering?

this is democracy?
What is democracy? I have read two national constitutions and they bore striking similarities, yet one was abbreviated and acknowledged a christianity 'of sorts'

I do not find this 'democracy' so in like by the masses, in the Scripture, but rather it seems the invention of man; always taking a new form to fit the need of the moment.

jpw,

From what i read and watched NATO knew what to hit and when to hit it, and now they want to expedite a quick democracy with Gadaffi if necessary time and the democratization of the ME their core goal?

jpw,

Do you read the Jerusalem Post? There was a recent article that I think you would find helpful in your due consideration of these things. It was related to an incident post WWII when Diaspora from the Holocost 8,500 Jews that survived the concentration camps were placed on luxury cruiser to return to Israel but they were sunk by the RAF before they reached Israel. It is classified information until 2045.

I would have thought it was obvious that the poster below was making a specific anti-Biblical point in his/her post. Their reason to vilify the Bible whilst promoting man's abominable lust.
/QUOTE]That was obvious, and I was grateful you responded.

But there was probably a reason why they choose to also introduce both slavery as sin and their conception of gender equality as righteous.

I assumed; possibly wrongly so, that it was related to the other posts and since I was posting, I was trying to follow the flow of everything being said. That is why I asked, if you thought that 1 Tim. 2:11 was related to men and woman posting their understanding of doctrine which they apply while discussing News stories. Often it seems doctrine takes the preeminence and the story a back seat. But is that surprising in the times in which we live, since doctrine is so relative?

Knowledge and truth,

You addressed homosexuality and women but were silent on slavery. God's Word addresses that too, Yes?

Do you think it sin for a woman to interact in this context then?

MAV wrote:
According to Dr. Martin Luther, isn't Faith Alone the Evangelical Gospel in a nutshell: "The article upon which the church stands or falls"?
Has this Gospel definition now changed to exclude certain sins (e.g., homosexuality, etc.)?
MAV,

I didn't think I heard anyone say that they believe otherwise. But to be justified would mean admitting that you have offended a Holy God and need to be justified in the courts of heaven, as well as a church court on earth,in the visible church or when stubborn men persist in open rebellion against their Creator a civil court judgment would be necessary lest they disrupt society.

If God has begun an effectual work in a sinner of any heaven defying crime, the sinner is drawn to the gospel and the Lord provides a knowledge of their sin, their substitute, and changes their will to embrace Jesus Chrsit freely offered in the gospel. Otherwise it is a merchandising in men's souls.

Rick wrote:
Why stop there? Why not say that Adulterers, fornicators, lairs, and cheats do the same?
It will be interesting to see what the denomination does about this, if anything.
Agreed Rick, but it is the violations of first table commandments which is synonymous with spiritual fornication and the downward progression that is why I stressed the hereditary warning of the second commandment.

Spiritual violations precede second table violations not the other way around. Romans 1 is dealing with those under the Triune Jehovah's Creation mandate. But Paul in another place speaks to believers

1 Cor. 10:7-12
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Rev 11:19 ¶ And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
Timeline of this verse: The seventh (last trump - 1 Cor 15:52)
Lurker,

Rev. 11:14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
15And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom(s) of this world are become the kingdom(s) of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

It is believed by the best of men, who of course, are men at best that the vial judgments against the apostate church, begin with the 5th trumpet or the first woe trumpet. Others believe that the sounding of the last woe trumpet #7 will begin the vial judgments. I tend to the first position.

It would seem the vial judgments shall be complete before the millennium and that there will be a time on earth where God's kingdom comes and his will, will be done at least more so on earth then in this apostate time and again before Satan is loosed again by Christ to deceive the nations. It is then Christ returns for the final time.

They offer another gospel.

Daniel 9:10-12
Isaiah 8:19-21
v.20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Exodus 20:1-6 And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Exactly! Yeah, and whats going to happen when they find out the Jesus they accepted is really the son of God?!

When are we finally going to have faith in the work of the Holy Spirit?

For its not by the cleverness or skill of man that brings salvation. Lets stop apologizing and being afraid of the word of God.

Wow. Not hard to see how this writer feels about the Church Fathers? So, what should a Christian's attitude towards the teachings of his pastor be?

Couldn't think of any other reasons someone might not attend a second service? Wouldn't an equally legitimate question be: Where did the 2 service a day model come from, since it was unknown to the the Jewish Sabbath or to the early church?

“ Great Sermon! ”
Thank you so much for this series. Every word of it is worth listening to! What brought me to this series was that for the last week I've been emailing a friend, in The Church of Christ, about salvation. He responded exactly as you mentioned in your series! I was encouraged to hear your responses. It helped let me know I was on the right track. I was more understanding towards what he was trying to explain to me. You've given me some great ideas! And I myself have a more solid understanding of salvation, baptism & works! Thank you so much!!!
