Jim: Many theological institutions require or recommend Latin with good reason including conservative dispensational seminaries such as Tyndale in Fort Worth and others.
Let me qualify this by saying I attend a small church by any standards, but do you think John MacArther soft pedals the gospel? How about John Piper to name a few?
Is it any surprise given mega-church leaders often conduct themselves like CEO-pastors that when they fall they would expect a golden parachute like their counterparts in the business world?
In regards to KK's comment about DMV pics, I believe that FL muslim women can still get away with leaving their full head/face covering on for their drivers license photo! Sort of defeats the whole purpose of the photo but I guess pandering is more important.
Abigail,I don't have proof they used swords and admitedly haven't done much study on this passage which is why I used the word apparently.
But what do you make of of Jesus telling his disciples the following upon his departure as they were about to be sent out on their mission? "Then he said unto them, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one." Luke 22:36 KJV
Luke 22:36-not a mandate for war but I take Jesus word literally when he encouraged disciples to to be equipped with sword apparently for self defense purposes.
Try googling the subject of nun sex abuse and you might want to read articles in the National Catholic Reporter Nov. 2002 and numerous other publications.
You're right Jim, unfortunately it will keep happening given the RCC is still playing games and withholding papers that are suspected to incriminate higher ups in the church of knowingly moving pedophile priests to other parishes. Mahoney is falling back on the excuse that they didn't know sex offenders couldn't be rehabilitated. I won't even get in to the issues of parishoners who continue to attend this church.
The NY Times only seems to pay attention to two candidates as well...at least in a positive light.
I hope I'm wrong but I'm not so sure the majority of this generation will come arou d so soon given so many buy into the liberal tempalte- indoctrinated with subjective truth and situation ethics.
The SBC should be careful in their efforts to accomodate and be relevant or they may end up like the CRC. I hear the PCA could be nearing the beginnings of downgrade as well in regard to a preacherettes.
It should now be obvious to any somewhat conservative churches still left in the CRC to separate and fellowship with the URC, RCUS, or other more biblical reformed churches.
And let me guess, the roots of this probably stem from lib. instructors at Calvin College.
There is much more in the Scriptures about fornication and adultery [divorce and remarriage] than there is about homosexuality.
Abigail, Your statement is valid but then again there isn't historical evidence that homosexuality was nearly as common among the Jews with knowledge of the OT statutes than among the pagans. The other two sins were shown to have been universally prevalent in that day as in ours and would have needed to be addressed more often.
Instead of seemingly agreeing with Mahmoud's sentiments which is the direction I understood that Shawn was going in his first post, or repeating what everyone on here already knows in regards to unregenerate Jews salvific condition, we should be in prayer for the Jew (and other people groups) in taking the example of M'Cheyne and promoting missions to this group. see(CWI)Christian Witness to Israel.
Mike,I would be cautious of putting a pejorative word in any sentence with God as the subject. True sovereigntists know that all deserve hell and that our Lord owes no explanation to as to who He elects.
Hagee heresy aside, the exaggerated comments that you made do not bring clarity to the socio-political discussion nor do they reflect well on the reformed camp which I assume is where you're coming from.
You actually help to build the case of some disps. who say their is a tinge of antisemitism in underlying reformed theology.
