Lyn, You've pointed out my other concern about this particular Bible story. "God's" side of this. How could an all-loving, all-powerful being put a simple desert man and his small son through such a horrible ordeal? What's the point? "God" knows Abraham innermost thoughts. Why the drama? It's cruel and unusual. I'm leery of a philosiphy that stresses obedience over independent thought. [AUTHOR]lyn[/AUTHOR]Jack, You don't understand, Abraham was trusting God, this was a test of his faith. God never intended for Abraham to kill his own son, and the proof of that is the fact that God intervened through His angel. Abraham, on the other hand, had such faith and trust in God, he knew that no matter what, it would work out for God's glory, and it most certainly did!! The problem with the label of 'Christianity' is that it is too broad. Christ preaches on the 'narrow way' and this is a road that few actually find. Why? Because we love our sins and our selves too much to let go. Hope this helps you.[/QUOTE] |

[QUOTE]Lyn, you are correct to say that most people have an inate sense of right and wrong. How it got there I don't know. What frightens me is that christianity holds up as heroes people who lack that sense. Abraham's proper response to the voice telling him to kill Isaac should have been "Go to hell!" I know if I heard such a voice I would either ignore it or seek help. [AUTHOR]lyn[/AUTHOR]To deny God's existence is to escape 'accountability'. That way, we can all live like hell, have our best life now, and go on believing that 'other' people die. Even the self-professing atheist has been known to doubt his denial of God on his deathbed. How does one explain that built in intuition, the knowing of right from wrong? Who put that there? How does an atheist know it's wrong to murder, or to rob a bank? No matter, as soon as we draw our last breath, we all know the truth at that very moment. Christ preached repentance, which is very unpopular in our sexually immoral, arrogant and greedy culture. To turn from our selfish desires is unheard of, let alone submitting to His Lordship. I know Christ is real, He lives within my heart and has set me free from the bondage of homosexuality. Praise God for His grace, and the beautiful gift of salvation.[/QUOTE] |

What do you expect from a christianity? One of the Bible's leading prophets was fully prepared to slaughter his own son as a response to a hallucination. This is often taught as an example of Abraham's great obedience. This was psychotic behavior, not something to be applauded. How can a philosophy based on such principles be worth following? [AUTHOR]a uk citizen[/AUTHOR] What strong comments from ignorance. Mr. Clegg has been honest. What about your 'christian' President? Have you ever listened to Bob Dylan, 'With God on our side'? I would rather have an honest man than one who professes faith in the living God, and uses it to kill many in God's name. Oh dear if ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise.[/QUOTE] |

Terry, I read some of your previous comments. I too am a Ron Paul supporter. I've seem him speak on several occasions and never heard religion bleed into his political statements. I guess his libertarian streak appeals to my existential world view. I do not seek the "spiritual" for two reasons. 1. I don't feel the need. 2. There is nothing there to find. Whether we like it or not the physical world is all there is. I know this because I have five senses and they're all in good working order. [AUTHOR]terry evans[/AUTHOR]Hi Jack Hard to tell, what are you trying to say Real men don't need God 1 Corinthians 1:26 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV) Public Domain 26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called Jack, At least your honest, I'll give you that. If you have a question about spiritual things, Toughen up! and ask.[/QUOTE] |

Lyn wrote: Badhorsie777, God bless you for your clear and concise comments. I am in total agreement with you, instead of bickering back and forth over who's right, which is prideful and arrogant [this is sin folks!!]let us go to the source, open up His holy word and pray for discernment. Over 150,000 people will die this day alone, and most will leave this world and be cast into outer darkness. And what is the so-called 'body of Christ' concerned with??? Who is more knowledgeable!!!May God have mercy on us; get off your computers and tell someone God's plan of salvation, share the life-changing news, quit acting like highly educated theologians and be the humble servant God has called you to be. |
