I second Mike's thought. Can I get a synoynym? Sounds kinda Catholic-ee to suggest there is only one valid translation. "I defy the Pope and all his laws. If God spare my life, ere many years I will cause a boy who drives the plough to know more of the scriptures than you do." -Tyndale |

My Sabbath rest is Christ Himself, the Author and Lord of the Sabbath.I'm so glad over a year ago I came across some works that innoculated me against this making the "10 commandments" the "rule of [my] life". Christ is All. If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Going to the law leads to dispair. Going to Christ leads to life, joy, love, peace,... "Christ is All: No Sanctification by the Law" penned wrote: we are required to sabbath. our sabbath rest is our freedom from works for our salvation. this salvation is today. those not resting are working for their salvation. so yes that commandment is binding.... we must rest in His work. |

Shane,I appreciate Ray Comfort as well. He is a brother. However, my statements were rhetorical questions. What evangelistic methods were used in which contexts? Jews vs Gentiles. It is clear. And ask why. My point was the silence re the 10 commandments which folks are saying are binding on believers. I believe God put the Sabbath smack in the middle because he knew we'd try to make them our rule of Life instead of Christ Himself. |

"Sabbath-breaking"Do you keep all the rules of the Sabbath laid out in the OT? --ie The real Sabbath that God instituted in the OT. Or do you refer to Sunday as "the Sabbath" and make up your own rules (and loopholes) not prescribed in the Word that everyone else must follow? The true Sabbath is resting in Christ how many ever days of the week you feel led to (Colossians) by the Spirit. I'm still looking in the NT epistles for all those Sabbath and tithing guidelines... "Keeping the Lords Day"??? |

Oh Foolish Galatians..."until" "no longer under" "captive" Acts 15: No mention of "Tell them to keep the 10 commandments" Romans 6: No mention of "Keep the 10 commandments" Romans 7: "died to the law..." "released from the law" "service in new way of Spirit and not in old way of written code" Peter at Pentecost: Did not do a Ray Comfort (preach the 10 commandments) Paul at Areopagus to Gentiles: Did not do a Ray Comfort How does Paul motivate? "Be holy for He is holy" "You were bought with a price" "love of Christ constrains us" "consider yourself dead to sin" etc, etc. Are some of the 10 commandments mentioned in the epistles? Yes. But what for. What is the context? Is Paul's goal for you to live by some written code or rules or to walk by the Spirit? Why do the epistles always start with who you are in Christ, then follow up with what you should do in light of that? Don't make the faulty assumption that "law" refers to the 10. Instead of listening to well-meaning Christians, Fathers, Confessions that put themselves under OT law, just read the Scripture and figure out for yourself. If you hold to it fine, but don't enslave others (Rom 14:22, Col 2). And "The Sabbath" is "The Seventh Day", not "one day in seven" |
