"1. What does Paul mean - 'castaway'? Do you equate that with 'perish in hell'?
2. If 'yes', did Paul manage to keep himself out of hell and go eventually to heaven because he 'kept his body under subjection'?"

1. Castaway speaks of being disqualified from the prize
2. Not because of the metaphor that he kept his body under subjection, but because he kept the faith in preaching (3:10) Christ and Him crucified (2:2) vs some other gospel.

John UK:
below are verses posted earlier-and just to clarify your understanding, the issue at hand has only to do with one of the points in the Calvin/Arminian debate, not five as you as alleged earlier in your typical fallacious argument strategy.

Why was the Apostle Paul asserting it was possible for himself to be disqualififed in 1 Corinthians 9:27?

Scripture provides countless examples of godly people who “strayed concerning the truth” (2 Timothy 2:18).

Mike New York: appreciate the substinative post # 50 just prior to my last comment which I hadn't seen earlier.

John, you're nothing if not predictable by attacking me personally instead addressing the texts I asked about.. but you just ignore them because it doesn't fit your template and call me a heretic when I acknowledged earlier that I could be wrong.

And for the record, I'm not new on here as part of some cult as you obnoxiously assert, but I just don't post on every subject for reasosns such as this- those with exceptional hubris on here seem to be auditioning for the Bible Answer Man. And since you're referncing church history, the Augsburg Confession prior to Dordt believed that a confessing believer could walk away from salvation ie blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

And the author of Hebrews 2:1; "give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away”
Scripture provides countless examples of godly people who “strayed concerning the truth” (2 Timothy 2:18) reminding us to be on guard for sin and false teaching.

John I admit I could be mistaken about this issue and I understand that condescending retorts are popular on this forum, but allow me to agree with youin that I'm not nor will I be close to perfect, but all praise be to my Savior who is and ever shall be.

Consider Luke 18:11-14

11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

I've come to believe that though the Lord loses none, that a beleiver can walk away from their salvation.

1 Corinthians 9:27 New King James Version (NKJV)

27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

2 Peter 2:20-22 New King James Version (NKJV)

20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

QC wrote, "Now most BPers will watch anything Hollywood produces. We watch almost none of it."

With all due respect, for whatever reason I think you're prone to overstatement. More like most BPers wouldn't even have cable let alone be big purveyors of worldly modern cinema.

I don't wish to go further down this side bar dialogue given it's based on opinion and off track of the original topic.

The Quiet Christian wrote:
Now i am not saying that Francis Schaeffer was forwarding so sort of heresy in terms of walking away from salvation through Christ alone as He is offered to us in the Bible. But he radically changed his lifestyle and his appearance, and as "How Then Shall We Live?" reflects, his standards.
I have not read the entire work that you mention. I know a later theme of Schaeffer's was that Orthodoxy without Orthopraxy is ugly. For what it's worth, I heard he did try to reconcile with CM before he died and maintained his position on innerancy...this coming from more than one that were around both BPC circles. In any case, I see the point you are trying to make but the "porn" reference is a highly charged term I had not heard.

Quiet Christian wrote, "One key difference is that is that Schaeffer never renounced his faith, although His did everything possible to renounce his former "conversation," even to the extent that his most notable work "How Then Shall We Live?" is an argument that Christianity is supreme based on pornography!"

Do you have a reference for the above statement? I am very familiar with the small denomination you refer to Schaefer leaving and never heard the allegation written above in regard to what he allegedly thought Christianity is based uopn.

It doesn't make sense to board your children from many respects.

Still, were that to happen to my own, I think I'd be tempted to break the sixth commandment. And yes I understand that we're not called to take justice into to their own hands.

Neil's comments remind me of the old business school maxim that the language of business is number$. All too often the corporate ethics are based on that as well.

Great news, this Ratio Christi sounds like a well needed minsitry given the attrition rate of young evangelicals on the secular campus.

Does the SBC impose no church discipline given the prominence of J. Carter? He's espoused false teachings going on 20 years from my readings and probably longer than that.

Thanks for calrifying John Lee, I heard what I believe you're talking about described as such:

Paul in Romans 4 is talking about how you enter into a right relationship with God, while James in general is writing about living in such a way that shows you are in a right relationship with God. One enters in the right relationship as illustrated by the father of faith Abraham, and then live in the relationship by faith that is also illustrated by Abraham.
