the rest of the Spurgeon quote...

Of course, we shall be howled at as bigots, but we can afford to smile at that cry, when it comes from the church which invented the Inquisition. “No peace with Rome” is the motto of reason as well as of religion.

From Surgeon’s “Sword and Trowel” of January, 1873

Essence of lies, and quintessence of blasphemy, as the religion of Rome is, it nevertheless fascinates a certain order of Protestants, of whom we fear it may be truly said that “they have received a strong delusion to believe a lie, that they may be damned.” Seeing that it is so, it becomes all who would preserve their fellow-immortals from destruction to be plain and earnest in their warnings. Not in a party-spirit, but for truth’s sake, our Protestantism must protest perpetually. Dignitaries of the papal confederacy are just now very prominent in benevolent movements, and we may be sure that they have ends to serve other than those which strike the public eye. A priest lives only for his church; he may profess to have other objects, but this is a mere blind. Our ancient enemies have small belief in our common sense if they imagine that we shall ever be able to trust them, after having so often beheld the depths of Jesuitical cunning and duplicity. The sooner we let certain Archbishops and Cardinals know that we are aware of their designs, and will in nothing co-operate with them, the better for us and our country.

ErnieG,

Look carefully at what Mike wrote. There is a huge difference in repeating words as a formula and actually living out those words. Does God need a reminder that you are speaking to Him as a representative of His Son? Or are you pleasing men by tailoring your spoken prayer to fit their expectations?

I have struggled with this issue for about a year, now, and have varied those ending words. When I lead in a group prayer, for example, I might thank Him for allowing me to pray in That Name or some such. It IS a treasured privilege. But repeating the same words turns into rote repetition – as we see in Roman Catholicism.

Good one, ENGINEER!

How 'bout...
Dan 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Why not pray that God's will be done? We've seen that happen. It's how we got what we have, now.

And AMEN on prayer for the SBs.

Maybe Hallmark will produce cards that say Congrats for _______________ and fill in the blank from anything in this list:
- being a committed fornicator
- sleeping around without your spouse suspecting it
- stealing all that money from your employer
- getting drunk again
- extorting successfully without landing in jail

Some of these things are mentioned in 1 Cor 6:9-10 along with "abusers of themselves with mankind" which is what these new Hallmark cards are about. I guess somewhere in the card they could say something about not inheriting the kingdom of God, too.

You're right, Wise.

Here's a thought I had after reading this...
We’ve have grown accustomed to seeing “Judeo-Christian” everywhere but now the hyphenation is multiplying as we see the melting pot religion develop another link (as in sausage? Nah – that won’t work) and we now have “Judeo-Christian-Islamic”. After adding a few more links, the one world religion will have to come up with a more convenient name. Can’t have hyperhyphenationism.

:-)

I don’t agree with Dave Hunt on a few things but I do on this. Here’s a 2.5 minute video he produced about papal ecumenism.

Good stuff, Retronym. What is the reference for that quote? I might want to read the whole thing.

Terv Davey,

Maybe that bishop wanting change was a distant relative of Rick Warren. Were the ‘Old Believers’ called resistors? Were they invited to just leave if they couldn’t go with the new ‘paradigm’?

Tony,

AMEN!!

Protestants don’t “follow suit” – they protest – that this antichrist claims to be speaking as a Christian and for Christians when he is NOT one himself.

You might as well say “Good for antichrist”.

Thank you, fuzzy logic, for posting the address and content of the article.

I’d like to be more clear on how the true Church should view the Roman Catholic religion.

1. The RCr is a huge, beautiful (on the surface) tumor that grew within the Body of Christ.

2. The knife of The Reformation caused a separation between that tumor and that Body.

3. The world doesn’t realize that this beautiful tumor, though it came from the Body of Christ, is not a part of it and thinks that the two should get back together.

4. We who are in the Body should react strongly and negatively to any suggestions of joining with, working with, appearing to agree with (even if they happen to be right) that excised foreign mass as if it had anything to do with us.

This view desperately needs to be revived among believers – especially the new ones – before something unthinkable and deadly is done such as we see in some apostate groups today which is a re-uniting of Body with deadly tumor – a reversal of that life saving surgery.

This is kind of like a major counterfeiter ‘pontificating’ on how the economy should be run.

Angela,

“Pastor” Mike claims to be an atheist so I doubt that he would be preaching from the Bible.

A little commentary on that phrase “who hold the truth in unrighteousness” is fitting. I’ve heard at least one preacher expound on that word “hold” and said the idea behind it was to suppress or hold down. That’s exactly what the sodomites want … to suppress God’s word because it condemns their “lifestyle” (which is really a deathstyle).

Turns the popular "Left Behind" theory on its head. Makes you WANT to be left behind.

Sorry about your attitude, Max. I’m not laughing with you.
