No I wouldn't. In fact I would call post millenialism, which is held up as truth by many reformed people to be more of a heresy..because it's basically saying God is finished with the nation of Israel. To me that is more heretical. There are many Bible believing Christians, who would question Romans 9 including some in the reformed camp. I don't but many would. It doesn't make them heretics.
Ladybug~you are correct concerning Eph 2:8-9, but I think we need to be careful about throwing the 'H' bomb around. Like I said, I was in the arminian camp at one point, was ferverent for souls, the study of Gods Word, fellowship with believers, etc...I knew salvation was of the Lord, but didn't know how MUCH of that salvation belonged to him. J4J, although I don't know him, is probably like that also. Maybe? I still love you and your portion here though!!!😀
I don't think he hates the sovereign God of the Bible Kev. I think he was like I was at one time(and many of us for that matter) in that he doesn't realize just how 'kingly' the king is.
You ever hear people say to insert your own name into the verse to 'personalize' it? Here's one to try it with.Eph 2:1 And Jeremy was dead in trespasses and sins..dead in the Greek=DEAD. To me that verse is the nail in the coffin (pun intended) of Arminianism.
I will never forget going evangelizing as an arminian. We would hit the streets and come back saying thing like " how many did you get?" Like,it was some kind of divine competition. As a reformed Christian, I am more zealous for souls because I know who is the great evangelist. God himself!!! I didn't know who the elect are, but I know that if someone hears the biblical gospel message, and hates his sin, and wants to have his sins removed, God is probably drawing him to himself. If he comes to Christ, he is the elect. Isn't that simply amazing? God saves men, uses us to do it, and he gets all the glory. That is truly amazing grace.
John for Jesus~ if Christ doesn't take away the sins of some, then his blood isn't really efficacious is it? But it's perfect because he shed it for his elect. Are you the elect? I think you are! But why did he shed it for his elect? Is it because he 'foreknew' that you would put your faith in him? Heaven would be like hell if we walked around saying "I put my trust in Christ when I was 10"...no, God called you to himself, regenerated you, gave you the faith, sealed you with the Holy Spirit, and now he is in the process of conforming you to the image of his son...LITERALLY!!
Hey john Y...you know, a few years back I was at a great church that had a church split. After looking around at churches, I started attending the RC church I attended as a kid. I said the same thing you did about the scriptural parts of the mass. Then I learned that the word mass means sacrifice and that in the RC church Chrisst is sacrificed anew ever mass. Well that kind of puts a nail in ( no pun intended) the finished work of Christ. If he needs to be sacrificed afresh at every mass why wasn't the Old Testament sacrificial system good enough for us..it was one time. That's why I couldn't attend the RC church again as beautiful as it can be sometimes. Just my take.
My favorite verse in all the Bible is a 'Christmas text.' Is 9:7 the last line of the verse...The ZEAL of the Lord of Hosts will do this." WHAT?? God is zealous enough for his elect that he will send his Son. It may have been Spurgeon who said "the greatest gift ever given was the Son of God, wrapped in humanity."
Mike ~You have every right to state what you think. In accordance with this, there must be other truths that should be excluded from pulpit commentary. Can you provide a list?
Well Are you referring to the pulpit in a Bible believing, and, preaching Church where Christ is exhaled or are you using the world pulpit to mean news boards like this? In the Church what is the sole purpose of the pastor teacher? It's to build up his flock so they can tell others. That's it. Faithful exposition, corporate prayer, evangelism etc..these mark the church in every age. Healthy ones anyway!! Again I'm not saying Christians shouldn't be involved in the political system but when people look at me they should say. There is Jeremy the believer in Jesus Christ, not there is Jeremy the conservative that likes to argue politics. Of course even a political conversation can be redeemed by going back to the biblical. When using wisdom of course. Abortion is a biggie. Someone asks, "why are you anti abortion?" I say, first of all I'm Pro life...because I was given new life when I didn't deserve it.. Watch ears perk up on that one!!!
As of yet I haven't heard one reasonable defense for Christians to be involved in politics. I mean if you are a Christian can you run for office? Absolutely!! I'm talking about the Christian who devotes half of their time to political activism, at the expense of the proclamation of the Gospel. When we go to church and half of the conversation revolves around politics, and this or that politician who reminds of the ANTI Christ instead of the little old lady in the front who reminds us of JESUS Christ...that's a problem. Sorry for the rant, but this is enough already. Maybe I need to stay off the SA 'news' tab for a week or so!!!
This is persecution for American Christians. Then we look about what God is doing in the underground church in Iran...it makes me say one loud word...PREACH!!!
