Dear Friends in Christ, September 2008

"I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people" (Psalm 77:11-14).

Standing Amazed We continue to be amazed at all the Lord has done and is doing. We look back at how He brought us here and how He established both the Bible institute and the church in Takhmau. We know that He has done it all, and we are very privileged to serve such a wonderful God.

Serene Atmosphere We praise the Lord for giving us a new location for the church/Bible institute, and we thank you for your prayers concerning God's will in that move. The new building is located in a quiet neighborhood, which is quite contrary to the previous location in a business district beside a mechanical repair shop. The pounding and grinding noises made it very difficult for the students to concentrate during the Bible institute classes, so we rejoice in the peaceful surroundings the Lord has provided.

Service Attendance It has been a blessing to see an increase in church attendance since moving to the new location. During August, the first full month at the new location, there was an average of 18 children in children's church and 25 in the regular services, which gave an average of 43 people in the services on Sunday mornings. Praise the Lord for sending visitors, as there have been about four new visitors each week. We are also excited that the children are able to meet in a room further away from the adults. In the previous building, Tera's preaching often drowned out Mi as she taught the children.

Sharing Admonition Tera is quickly learning the trials and experiences of being a pastor. A few weeks ago there was a problem with a husband and wife who regularly attend the church. Tera was able to go and share some biblical principles on marriage and the family in order to help them resolve their problem. Ron didn't find out about the situation until the next day.

Simple Achievements The institute continues to progress well. As of this past month, we have finished a complete survey of the entire Bible, as well as Bibliology (doctrine of the Bible), Pneumatology (doctrine of the Holy Spirit), and some courses on discipleship and marriage. We are about a third of the way through the Sermon Preparation course, which is going well. Within the next year, we hope to finish all of the doctrines. Then we will start to dig more deeply into the individual groups of the books of the Bible (i.e. Pentateuch, Historical books, General Epistles, etc.).

Special Assignments At the beginning of August, we began teaching English as a way to reach out to the community where the church is now located. Just as in the States, the Cambodians have a break from school, although theirs is during August and September. This break provided an ideal time for a short-term ministry of English to the neighborhood kids, which has allowed us to get to know many of them. The first few weeks were a little slow, but now there are between 15-20 kids coming each day. We meet three times a week with Ron teaching the beginner group and Tina teaching the intermediate group. Tera has also been able to teach a short Bible lesson, introducing many of the children to the Bible for the first time. It is a joy to see some of the same children come to church.

Specific Advances We have also embarked on another new ministry, but this time in the institute. Through the gifts of several individuals, the Lord provided a 60GB digital HD video recorder. This will be used in the Bible institute to record all of the lessons, which will help in a number of ways. First, it gives the students in the institute an opportunity to watch the classes they miss because of illness or work. Since the classes are only taught every seven or eight years, it will be a long time until the students are able to attend that specific class again. Second, we desire to eventually use these DVDs in the province where it is impractical at the current time to teach these different courses. All we will have to do is set up a TV, a DVD player, and we can hold classes anywhere. Obviously, this isn't as good as the classroom experience, but it is much better than what they now have available to them. Third, all of the courses presently taught at the institute are translated, which can be very costly and take a lot of time. Since we plan to teach the current classes again in the future, we can simply use the videos in a classroom setting with someone available to answer questions. Fourth, there are new students joining the class all the time, so the videos will allow them to study the lessons they missed before they came. We are looking forward to using this new piece of equipment for the glory of God and for the furtherance of His kingdom.

Seeking Autonomy Since arriving in Cambodia, our goal has been to help establish autonomous, indigenous, independent Baptist churches. We believe proper biblical training is one of the keys to this goal, which is why the Bible institute was established. To be autonomous though, the Cambodians should not rely on financial support from the missionary, and since most people are very poor it is not probable that a pastor can be fully supported by a church. Tera is able to do many things, but nothing seems to provide consistent income for his family. Therefore, at the beginning of September Tera started attending a moto (small motorcycle) repair school. A moto mechanic is a good job to have in Cambodia, with flexible hours, and always in demand. After finishing the course and getting some on-the-job training, Tera will be able to train other men in the Bible institute as well. Please pray with us about this, as it will help these men have a means of income while they are planting churches. Please also pray for Ron and Tom Johnson to have wisdom as they seek other ways of helping these men with vocational training and securing jobs.

Snyder's Absence Recently we welcomed Pastor Dave and Shirley Marstellar to Cambodia. They are filling in for Wayne and Dee Snyder, who are in the States on furlough. Please pray for the Snyders during their furlough travels, as well as for the Marstellars during their ministry with the English services for the next two months.

"Schoolroom" Abilities We continue to miss our children's presence and help in the ministry, but we praise the Lord for His faithful guidance in their lives. They are all doing well and serving the Lord in the place where He has them. At the end of July, Rebekah completed her education at Bob Jones and is now working on full-time staff at Camp Joy. She is enjoying the many facets of camp ministry, although she feels that she has so much to learn. She continues to have problems with headaches, so we would appreciate your prayers for her. Leah has recently begun her sophomore year at Baptist College of Ministry in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. She is excited about the new opportunities on the bus ministry and is looking forward to the challenge of her classes. She has also begun flute lessons again and is involved in various orchestral groups. Jonathon continues to work at Camp Joy with his eyes focused on joining Leah sometime in the future at BCM. He had the privilege of studying piano under Dr. Ream during the summer, while Dr. Ream was teaching at the Valor Music Conservatory offered at Camp Joy. Those studies have rekindled Jonathon's love for piano and music. We truly appreciate the encouragement that you have given to our kids. Thank you also for your prayers for them, as well as for us and the ministry in Cambodia. May each of us be found faithful with the tasks given to us every day.

Serving the Saviour,

The Fruins
